CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />"TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!" <br />BOARD OF BUILDING CODE APPEALS <br />AGENDA - OCTOBER 22, 1998 <br />I. ROLL CAL,L: <br />Chairman R. Burk called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. <br />PRESENT: Chairman, R. Burk, Commissioners, P. Engoglia, D. Spoerke, and J. Kazak. <br />ALSO PRESENT: Assistant Building Commissioner T. Rymarczyk, and Clerk of Commissions D. <br />Rote. <br />II. REVIEW AND CORRECTIONS OF MINUTES: J. Kazak motioned to except the minutes of the July <br />24, 1997 as written. The motion was seconded by P. Engoglia, and unanimously approved. <br />III. COMMUNICATIONS: No Items <br />IV. HEARINGS: No Items <br />V. NEW BUSINESS: <br />A). Mrs. Myrtle Buettner; 5708 Canterbury Road: <br />Request a variance to be pernutted to keep the pre existing stairs. <br />Which is in Violation of : 314.2 <br />The greatest tread depth within any flight of steps shall not exceed the smallest by more than 3/8" <br />inch. Minimum tread depth shall not be less than 9" inch plus nosing (nosing to be 3/4" inch to 1 <br />1/4 " inch). <br />Mr. Burk read the request out loud, and asked what members had inspected the site. Mr. Kazak, <br />and Mr. Engoglia suggested they had been to Mrs. Buettners home to inspect the stairs in question. <br />Mr. Rymarczyk indicated the City inspector had been to the site and the only violation that was <br />found was the stairs. Mr. Engoglia indicated that the job was well done, and the reason the stairs <br />were left the way they were was to accommodate more room in Mrs. Buettners kitchen. It should <br />be passed the way it is. N1r. Kazak indicated he walked up and down the stairs several times to see <br />if there was a problem, it looks a little awkward but it works fine. Mr. Burk asked if the stairs had <br />carpeting or finished in any other way. Mr. Engoglia indicated the stairs are not carpeted, but are <br />inclosed, there is a hand rail on one side that can support someone descending the stairs. Mr. <br />Rymarczyk reminded the members that the stairs in question were built under the old code and at <br />the time they were built they were within the code. The new stairs were built to meet the new code. <br />Mr. Kazak motioned to grant the variance to keep the pre existing stairs. Which is in Violation of : <br />314.2. The motion was seconded by P. Engoglia, and unanimously approved. Motion Carried. <br />VI. OLD BUSINESS: No Items <br />VII.
