Chambers Funeral Home: 29150 Lorain Road:
Proposal consists of alterations to the existing building to accommodate a funeral home.
Note: Planning Commission referred this proposal to the Architectural Review Board
at its 5/14/02 meeting.
C'hairman Zergott moved on to new business and asked the representatives from Chambers Funeral
F[ome to present any designs they have and to explain what they have in mind. He asked them to
ir?form the Board about how their meetings with the public went. Mr. Art Lawrence, the realtor on
tlie project, indicated they are waiting for the arrival of Jeff Grusenmeyer, the architect. He pointed
out that Mr. Dan Chambers, and Mr. Bill Chambers were present to represent the funeral home. Mr.
Grusenmeyer joined the meeting and gave a brief history of the building on the site that Chambers
Funeral Home is proposing to renovate. Mr. Yager indicated they received renderings of the
proposed site in the packets they were sent. Ms. Karen Schulz joined the proceedings at this point.
NZr. Grusenmeyer mentioned the building currently on the site is rather plain and they are doing
e:Ktensive work on it. They are looking at stripping off the entire exterior surfaces except for the
e:xisting brick, which is a colonial looking brick. The bottom three feet of the mansard will be
rE;moved and be replaced with cornice work. Basically the entire exterior of the building, except for
a little bit of brick, is brand new material. He referred to the renderings he brought in. He said the
building will be faced in brick which will match what is there now. He showed the Board samples
of the brick, which is a Georgetown style, a blend brick to match what is there. They are picking up
some details that are going into the library, which will be 1.2 miles away. They are going for a
contiguous look. They are two different building types. The library is a single story but they are
taking a lot of the detail such as the jack arches above the windows, the cornice work, and the
banding below the sills. They will use a smooth face masonry for the bands below the sills. The
sliingles will all be new and they are using a gray slate material. Mr. Grusenmeyer said it will give
tlie building a Western Reserve look. He said the cornice work will be a white pre-manufactured
rriaterial. The new coping across the top will be a coping system that snaps on top. They will put a
s?nall addition on to the building so they can extend it out and place a porte cochere there. He
