Assistant Building Commissianer; T. <br />,, . <br />II. REVIEW ANI) CORRECTIaN OF MINUTES: The Planning Commission minutes dated Nlay 14, <br />2002 have been submitted for approval. R. Koeth motianed to approve the May 14, 2002 Planning Cammission minutes as written. The <br />motion was seconded by K. Q'Rourke and unanimously approved. <br />ffi. ADMINISTRATIVE SUBMITTAL: <br />1. ew North Olmsted Public Library; 232w11-004.-007,022,=02.4 <br />Proposal coflsists of the construction af a new North Olmsted Publie Library: : <br />Chairman Kaeth welcomed the other Boards and.Commissian members who were preseirt.to review <br />the propasal. The Chairma.n requested that the architect place his plans in an area, wluch : everyone <br />could see. Mr. Koeth then reviewed the manor in which he wanted the presontation presented. Mr. <br />Bittinger; the Architect and Mr. Hunsick8r, the Vice President of the architectural firm came forward <br />to review the proposal. Mr. Bittinger suggested that two years ago the'rr firm was asked to perform a <br />study ta erect a library witlun North Olmsted.. Their firm looked at many sites and it was found that <br />the best area for the library would be within the triangulaz atea of iand located between Dover Center <br />Road, Lorain Road and Butternut Ridge Road. It was deeided that the best location within the <br />triangle to place the building would be as close as possible to the existing City buildings. With 'the <br />thought that the remaining properiy within the triangle possibty being developed later. The site <br />chosen will also have the library within walking distance to and fram both the middle school and high <br />school. The site will have a presence on Lorain Road however, it will not be seen from the road. <br />There will be a green space between the road and the front of the building. There will be,no parking <br />in the front of the building howevEr; there will be access ta the site from both Lorain and Butternut <br />Ridge Roads with. speed bumps fio keep the speed to a minimum. The buiiding will be 30;000 square <br />foat in size; which was set when the bond issue. was passed, as was the elevation. 41d Town Hall was <br />used as a model for the new library. There are existing trees on the site, .which are very old and they <br />would like to save them. There are two very large trees on one of the sites along Butternut Ridge and <br />the entrance drive will be placed between the two trees. There axe many trees behind the building, <br />which will rema.in .as well.. Tn meet the water retention requiremerrts there. will be a mowed basin that <br />will fill during rainfall thim dry-out once the rain subsides. The green space will include a gaaebo <br />and the preserve trees will be auginemed with specimen trees. The builcling will be brick, the rcaof <br />will be asphalt shingles and the windows wi11 be an aluininum-clad style. The front door, which faces <br />Lorain Road, will have a traditional pediment in the center with raised elements vn either side. The <br />rotunda will be the rear entrance and include a covered outdooz area. To enhance the amount Qf <br />naturai light there will be round-top windows throughout the site. 1VIr.
