?
CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED
"TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!"
LANDMARKS COMMISSION
1VIINUTES - OCTOBER 14, 2002
IN OLD TOWN HALL
7:00 P.M.
ROLL CALL: Vice Chairman Corell called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m.
PRESENT: Vice Chairman, G. Corell and board members, P. Barker, T. Dubowski, L. VanAuken,
M. Davis, J. Dailey, and K. O'Rourke
ABSENT: Chairman B. Lord, and board member J. Lang
II. REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF NIlNUTES: The Landmarks Commission minutes from the
August 12, 2002 meeting have been submitted for approval.
P. Barker asked to have the record indicate that the last meeting was cancelled because Mr. Corell
and Mrs. Lord were out of town.
T. Dubowski made a motion to accept the minutes as submitted. The motion was seconded by P.
Barker and unanimously approved.
III. NEW BUSINESS:
Certificate of Appropriateness for William Freed, 27615 Butternut Ridge Road. Proposal
consists of a new roof - connect two different roof pitches.
Darren Mackley, the contractor for Mr. Freed, came forward to address the commission. He referred
to pictures and indicated there is roofing currently on the house that has deteriorated and needs to be
replaced. The owners want to connect two different roof pitches. He explained there are numerous
layers of wood. He will not be sure what he is dealing with until he begins working on tearing off
the layers. Mr. Corell asked if he will build it to fit whatever he finds. The contractor indicated that
is correct. He added that it will be built to shed water properly. Mr. Barker asked if he would
replace shingles up as far as he has to, or if he will replace shingles in the whole area. Mr. Mackley
said he will replace only what he has to. He said there are some shingles that are in good shape. He
explained more of the specifics of the project. Mr. Barker asked if the new roofing will be the same
color as it is now. The contractor indicated it will be the same. The color is aspen gray. He has
done some repairs on the roof already and you cannot tell the difference between the old and new
shingles. Mr. Corell said by looking at the blueprint, it will look like the way it probably should
have been done when the addition was made.
P. Barker made a motion to approve the certificate of appropriateness for William Freed, of 27615
Butternut Ridge Road, to connect the roof between two different pitches as per the request. The
shingles are to match the existing roof. The motion was seconded by M. Davis and unanimously
approved.
Patricia Moran, of 5391 Decker Rd. Resident would like the board to advise her on how to get a
plaque for her home - Mr. Corell asked if Ms. Moran or any representative was present. No one
came forward.
• Natalie & James Leek, potential homeowners in the Historical District, 27082 Butternut Ridge
Road
