RECEPTION OF VISITORS:
Valerie Wiles
III. NEW BUSINESS:
Patricia Moran, 5391 Decker Rd. - Resident is seeking information on obtaining a plaque for her home.
Mr. Lang explained that Mrs. Moran was present prior to the beginning of the meeting. She had to leave
but she requested information regarding the paperwork necessary to plaque her home. Mr. Lang gave her
the requested information and explained the process to her.
Mr. Lang mentioned a conversation he had with Dr. Peck. He came to find out Dr. Peck is the owner of
property on Lorain Road out on the west end. That property is up for sale, although there is no sign. The
property was originally owned and constructed for Charles Seltzer, a former mayor of North Olmsted. It
is a very attractive home. The unfortunate part is, as with anything else along Lorain Road, it is zoned
commercial. He said Dr. Peck probably intends to sell it as a commercial property knowing full well
what its ultimate fate is going to be. It is well beyond the board's reach. Mr. O'Malley asked if the home
has been plaqued. Mr. Lang said it has not been plaqued, but it certainly fits the criteria. He said his
understanding of plaquing is, a home may be plaqued but you can't stop it from being destroyed, even if it
is listed on the National Register of historic buildings. Mr. O'Malley said as he understands it the plaque
is an opportunity to preserve and note the history, to educate people about the history, and document the
history. The home inay get bulldozed down the road but the function of the plaquing process is to make
note of and gather the information. Mr. Lang said Dr. Peck is more than willing to open his home to the
board before he leaves the premises. He said he would like to set up such a walk through. Mrs.
VanAuken said the home is right next to a Mexican restaurant. There is a long hedge so the house is not
visible from the road. She gave further detail about the home. She said she had suggested to the Peck's
that they might try selling it to St. Clarence as a retreat house. It can be rented out to different groups.
Mr. O'Malley commented there is a lot of commercial property for sale out there and if another buyer
comes along it could be saved.
IV.
