NORTH OLMSTED PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION

September 8, 2003

Meeting called to order: 7:05 p.m.

In Attendance: Claire Hayes, Chairman
Norm Baxter, Member
Michael R. Gareau, Jr., Councilman
Richard Jesse, Safety Director
Randi Jones, Member
Anna Kanis, Member
William D. Kelley, Member
Ted DiSalvo, Recreation Commissioner

Visitors: Bob Varga, Quality Quick Snacks
Larry Hilton, J. L. Hilton Co., Inc.

The Meeting was called to order and roll-call taken. Due to illness, the August minutes were not
complete in time for this Meeting but will be ready for Commission members' review with the
September minutes in time for the October meeting.

SUB COMMITEE REPORT

Definition of Family

Rocky River’s “Definition of Family” was approved by the Sub Committee as quoted in the July
minutes. Mr. DiSalvo questioned "Definition of Family" as to how it pertains to the Rec
Department as opposed to the "We Care" Program.. Mr. Jesse stated that it means the definition
of patrons versus procedures regarding fee schedules. "We Care" may be amended to make it
more harmonious with "Definition of Family." "We Care" is an Ordinance. This matter should be
placed up for new business at the next meeting.

REPORT BY RECREATION COMMISSIONER

Homecoming

Collectively, 230 people participated in the survey, attached hereto as Exhibit A. For the most
part the majority of the questions were answered, while some were left blank or had more than
one response in multiple choice categories. Another survey will be taken to measure the
consistency compared to the first survey. The survey outlines demographics of the Rec
Department. Basic programs are what most people sign up for at the Rec. Other important
considerations are pricing, cleanliness and service. Note: buy one get one passes for swimming
and skating were given out if the survey was filled out. Consideration should be given for future
giveaways. Ms. Hayes asked if Mr. DiSalvo had fun at the Homecoming. Mr. DiSalvo
