Y
CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED
CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION
NORTH OLMSTED, OHIO
MINUTES - SPECIAL MEETING - MARCH 19, 1985
ROLL CALL:
The special meeting of the North Olmsted Civil Service Commission was called to
order at 7:36 p.m. by Chairman Philip Huffman. In attendance were DeanKay,
Secretary Westerfeld, and later during meeting, Fire Chief John VanKuren.
Patrolman Candidate Removal - Secretary.Westerfeld informed Commission Members that
a request for attendance at a meeting to discuss his
removal might be received from Patrolman Candidate
Kenneth Delfing. The Commission was reminded that Mr. Delfing did not pass the visual
physicalexamination for the position and was removed for that reason. The Commission
felt any decision should wait until we received formal request by Mr. Delfing.
Firefighter Physical Examination - A call was received from American Physical Qualifi-
cation Testing Corp. to advise us that there was
some irregularity in the testing procedure. They
said that the run was approximately one minute off the normal time and that the
coupling test scores were off by approximately one minute. They explained that the
scores would not be compared to the national norm, but that the candidates would pass/
fail as they would have if the normal tests were given due to the fact that they would
grade the tests under the proper assumption. Upon verbal communication the Commission
Members felt the test results would qualify. The Firefighter Certified Eligibility
List will be approved at the next regular meeting on March 25.
Board of Education Proposal - Secretary Westerfeld received answer from Law Director
Michael Gareau and was instructed to send a copy of the
letter to -Mr. Kline at the Administrative Center. .
Provisional Employees - It was ascertained by the Commission upon review of the
question raised that a provisional employee still on pro-
bationary period must rank in the top three on the exam
given pertaining to that position. If a provisional employee has passed the probationary
period before the test is given, then the provisional employee is only required to pass
the examination to retain his or her position.
Clerk/Typist Exam - Passing score was set by the Commission at 97. The envelopes were
then opened and Secretary Westerfeld recorded the names in order
of rank:
Firefighter Certified List —Chief VanKuren stated that since he is still in need of
another employee he was still interviewing from the old
list and wanted to be sure that was proper. He was
informed that since the new list had not yet been certified at a meeting, he was well
within the rules to use the list available to him.
Motion to adjourn was made by Phil Huffman and seconded by Dean McKay at 8:05 p.m.
Respectfully Submitted,
l444_W
Sandi Westerfeld, Secretary Dr. Philip Huffman, Clfairman
