CITY OF NORTH OLMSTE® <br />CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION <br />NORTH OLMSTED, OHIO <br />REGULAR MEETING - CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION - JANUARY 22, 1987 <br />Present: Commissioners, Pat Bahas, Tom Storh, Bob Wendt, <br />Secretary, Peg Hill. <br />Attending: Police Chief Marsh <br />Meeting called to order at 7:30 P.M. <br />Minutes of the last meeting, December 18, 1986 approved as read. <br />Old and new business matters set aside to accomodate Chief Marsh. <br />Chief Marsh brought four (4) items to the attention of the commission: <br />1) Consideration requested to advertising positions in the Police Department <br />showing 34 as maximum age for candidate.seeking appointment to the Department. <br />Requested the commission to adopt this age limit as a rule for hiring purposes. <br />2) Probation period be extended to 18 months. <br />Promotional probationary period to remain at one (1) year. <br />a) This sanctioning will be considered and further checked with law director. <br />3) Requested consideration be given to visual test for police candidates <br />4) Consideration given to.a new departmental policy that a suspended officer - one <br />who has been suspended for three or more days be removed from the seniority list <br />in respect to vacation choice and shift pick. Also, an officer suspended for <br />(example) one month out of a year be only credided on his PERS plan for actually <br />working for 11 months, the one month suspension is time lost. <br />This matter would be taken up with the law director and his decision will be <br />upheld by the commission, and suhsequently acted upon or considered. <br />Regular meeting of the commission resumed. <br />Discussion followed surrounding the official employment of Mrs. Vivian Mueller in the <br />City Engineer's office as Clerk, ranked and properly interviewed. <br />Legal ads published for the Fireman's test to be given February 26, 1987 at the <br />Cafetorium of the high school. <br />At the police chief's request the test for Clerk in the department will be given as <br />the first priority after the conclusion of the fireman's test. <br />Reading of communications received surrounding the Butera/City of North Olmsted Hearing. <br />Discussion ensued with regard to the proof of citizenship form distrubuted by Mr. Richard <br />Noble, Service Director for the City of North Olmsted. <br />Resuming discussion on priority testing the commission is placing the Secretary I test <br />for the school board to follow the Police Department Clerk's test as soon as possible. <br />Commissioners congratulated Pat Bahas on her forthcoming marriage and expressed their <br />best wishes. <br />Meeting adjourned at 8:45 P.M. <br />Minutes to be approved at meeting of 2/25/87 <br />
