OLD BUSINESS i 1) Proh otionat'Fire Lieutenant Examination The written examination was given yon Api712Q, 1996 On May 11, theztop six candidates were permitted to take the oral assessment. At the June 17th meeting,` there -was a protest filed by Mr. Ronald Prebis He felt his seniority points should have been added in after the written _... , ......_.. examination,. 0116 466 the fact the rule was vague, the commission,agreed to re -administer the oral assessment portion ofthe test to Mr. Prebis plus those candidates he could surpass. It was decided, when there'is a need to -hire beyond the candidateked _ran'second, the oral examination would have to be re=admui stered to candidates, ranked third"through sixth plus Mr. Prebis. The candidates ranked third through sixth ire, opposed;to this decision. All the candidates affected by this decision seem to have come up'with a solution that will be beneficial to everyone. Mr. Prebis, the spokesman for the group at our previous meeting, is willing to drop 5 of his extra credit points if only he will be required to take the oral assessment. The commission preferred to administer this examination at a location where one is already being given. The question as to whether we can extend the list to two years from the date Mr. Prebis will take the examination, was referred to the law director for his opinion. The commission has received a copy of the law director's written opinion in their packets. The secretary read the law director's written opinion and a copy was sent around the room Mr. Hehnen requested to go on record that he filed an individual protest. A copy of this protest along with several others are on file in the civil service office. Mr. Hehnen explained that the law directors opinion adversely effects him, as he will be required to recompete against candidates ranked third, fifth, and sixth plus Mr. Prebis. He believed this is unfair because he is not given the opportunity to compete against candidates ranked first and second. Mr. Hehnen believed
