CITE' OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />"TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!" <br />CIVIL. SERVICE COMMISSION <br />NOTES — SEPTEMBER 17, 2001 <br />COUNCILS CONFERENCE ROOM <br />7:00 PM <br />ROLL CALL: <br />PRESENT: Chairman, J. Thomay board members L. Zolar and P. Farrell. <br />ALSO PRESENT: Assistant Law Director, J. Dubelko and D. Rote, Civil Service Secretary. <br />II. DISPOSITION OF MINUTES: The Civil Service minutes dated June -18, 2001, July 3, 2001 and <br />August 16, 2001 have been submitted for approval. <br />J. Thomay motioned to approve the June 18, 2001, July 3, 2001 and August 16, 2001 Civil Service <br />minutes as submitted. The motion was seconded by P. Farrell and unanimously approved. <br />III. REPORTS: <br />There were 8 correspondences received and 3 correspondences sent out two of which pertain to Mr. <br />Gates hearing located under New Business. <br />J. Thomay motioned to accept the reports as submitted. The motion was seconded by P. Farrell and <br />unanimously approved. <br />V. OLD BUSINESS: <br />Commissioners need to address possible changes to Rule H section 1, (d) and Rule VI section 3 (b) <br />(c) and (e). <br />Mr. Thomay announced that the review of the Civil Service handbook would not be addressed at <br />tonight's meeting as the board will only be addressing the hearing. <br />2. Continued discussion regarding Fireman Boatman's e-mail regarding promotions in Rule III, section <br />8, letter (f). Note: At the June 18, 2001 meeting the commission requested suggestions from <br />Fireman Boatman. <br />Mr. Thomay questioned if Fireman Boatman had submitted suggestions or was present. The clerk <br />indicated that she had not received any suggestions nor heard from him. As Mr. Boatman was not <br />present the chairman tabled Mr. Boatman's issue until the next regularly scheduled meeting. <br />V. NEW BUSINESS: <br />Commissioners need to review Fire Candidate Timothy Gates eye exam results and make a motion <br />as to whether or not his name should be removed from the certified list. Note Fire candidate Gates <br />is present to show why he feels his name should not be removed. <br />Mr. Thomay indicated that Mr. Gates was examined by the eye center (Dr. Hershner) on August 9; <br />2001. There is a typographical error in the letter that was sent to Mr. Gates dated August 23, 2001. <br />It should have read distance vision was 20/25 in right eye not 20/50. As Dr. Hershner's letter <br />indicated Mr. Gates does not meet the City of North Olmsted vision standards. Each board member <br />
