CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />"TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!" <br />CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION <br />MINUTES — FEBRUARY 25, 2002 <br />COUNCILS CONFERENCE ROOM <br />7:00 PM <br />I. ROLL CALL: <br />Acting Chairman, Thomay called the meeting to order at 7:45 p.m. <br />PRESENT: Board members; J. Thomay, P. Martin and R. Giesser. <br />ALSO PRESENT: Law Director, J. Dubelko, Civil Service Secretaries, D. Rote and A. Kilbane. <br />II. DISPOSITION OF MINUTES: The Civil Service minutes dated November 19, 2001 have been <br />submitted for approval. <br />J. Thomay motioned to approve November 19, 2001 Civil Service minutes as written. The <br />motion was seconded by R. Giesser and unanimously approved. <br />Prior to the start of the Civil Service meeting Law Director, J. Dubelko swore in the two new <br />members, Mrs. Patricia Martin and Rosemary Giesser. Mr. Dubelko congratulated the new <br />members on their appointments and wished them the best of luck. <br />III. REPORTS: <br />There were eight (8) correspondences received and nine (9) correspondences sent out. <br />There was a brief discussion regarding a quote from Union Eye Care to conduct the eye exams <br />for the Civil Service Department. Since the board is looking to change the vision requirements <br />for the Civil Service Handbook this year. The board will wait until the changes are in effect and <br />then request another quote from Union Eye Care to make sure it will reflect what will be <br />required. <br />J. Thomay motioned to approve the correspondences as submitted. The motion was seconded by <br />R. Giesser and unanimously approved. <br />IV. OLD BUSINESS: <br />1. Commissioners need to continue the review of the North Olmsted Civil Service Handbook. <br />Mr. Thomay indicated that as the new members just received their Civil Service Handbooks the <br />board would wait until the next to start addressing possible changes to the handbook. The clerk <br />indicated that she would make sure that each member received a copy of all the suggestions she <br />had received thus far. <br />2. Commissioners need to re-evaluate the two testing companies reviewed last year and select one <br />of them to administer the Building Inspectors examination. <br />Mr. Thomay commented that the board had reviewed tests from two different companies the later <br />part of 2001. The Building Commissioner was not impressed with either of the tests as he felt <br />that they were more for electrical or plumbing and he is looking for a building inspector. A brief <br />discussion regarding the fact that the clerk could not find any more testing companies, which <br />offer building inspectors exams, took place. The board requested that the clerks get quotes from <br />both testing companies for 30 candidates. Based on the price the clerk should start looking at <br />dates and find a place to administer the exam. Discussion regarding the procedures to conduct a <br />
