e <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />"TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!" <br />CIVIL SERVICE MEETING <br />JULY 19, 2004 <br />MINUTES <br />I. ROLL CALL: <br />Chairwoman Giesser called the meeting to order at 7:12 p.m. <br />PRESENT: Chairwoman R. Giesser, Board members W. Hohmann and M. Ubaldi <br />ALSO PRESENT: Assistant Law Director B. O'Malley, Civil ;Service Secretary D. Rote and Mr. <br />Torgalkar a student from Miami University shadowing the Law Department. <br />H. DISPOSITION OF MINUTES: <br />The Civil Service minutes dated July 7, 2004 have been submitted for approval. <br />R. Giesser moved to approve the July 7, 2004 Special Civil Service minutes as written. M. <br />Ubaldi seconded the motion which was unanimously approved. <br />III. CORRESPONDENCE: <br />IV. OLD BUSINESS: <br />Continued discussion regarding possible updates to the Civil Service Handbook. <br />The Commissioners would like to invite the Police chief to their next meeting to discuss the vision <br />standard wording as well as other wording in the Civil Service Handbook which he would like <br />addressed. Ms. Giesser requested, Mr. Ubaldi administer the Fire entry-level written examination. <br />The secretary reviewed that the testing company would send an administrative packet for the <br />administrator so that the individual will know exactly what to say and do the night of the test. <br />R. Giesser moved to appoint Vice Chairman Michael Ubaldi as the test administrator for the <br />Firefighter/Paramedic written examination. W. Hohmann, seconded the motion which was <br />unanimously approved. <br />Mr. Hohmann indicated that chapter 3 regarding promotions had some typographical errors which <br />needed to be corrected. Commissioners made typographical corrections to rule III covering <br />promotions. Discussion regarding time and grade requirements for promotional examinations took <br />place and Mr. O'Malley advised that he would research Rule III section 2 & 3 further for the <br />commission and advise them at the next meeting. After a lengthy discussion regarding when and <br />how efficiency and seniority points are added Mr. O'Malley advised that he would research the <br />matter further for the commission. The Commission would like to know who, the number of <br />evaluators, how, and when efficiency points are updated and established. <br />V. NEW BUSINESS: <br />Safety Director's memo requesting an Entry -Level Police examination be administered. <br />Ms. Giesser advised that she pulled all the documentation she received in preparation for Fire test <br />and would like the secretary to make copies for the Police Chief so he can review and indicate <br />which companies he feels administers the type of test they ; feel is the most appropriate. The <br />Commission would like the Police Chief to attend their August 16, 2004 meeting to give his <br />1 <br />
