CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION MEETING CITY COUNCIL CAUCUS ROOM MINUTES - FEBRUARY 27, 2012 7:00 P.M. L ROLL CALL: Chairman J. Barrett called the meeting to order at 6:59 pm PRESENT: J. Barrett, M. Ubaldi, and M, Hayes ALSO PRESENT: Human Resources Director C. Farver, Recreation Commissioner B. Drenski, S. Barrett, Asst. Law Director B. O'Malley, and Civil Service Secretary D. Eccleston II. DISPOSITION OF MINUTES: The Civil Service minutes dated January 23, 2012 have been submitted for approval. Mr. Barrett made a motion to accept the minutes as submitted. Mr. Ubaldi seconded and unanimously approved. III. COMMUNICATIONS: There were 7 items of correspondence received and 8 items of correspondence sent out by the Civil Service Commission, IV. OLD BUSINESS: V. NEW BUSINESS: Vacant Program Supervisor Position at Recreation Center The Recreation Commissioner has requested of the Commission to exempt the Program Supervisor, a classified position, from testing. The requirements meet the peculiar and exceptional qualifications of scientific, managerial, professional or education character. The qualifications of this position is a degree in recreation, a strong background in tennis and sports program management, Karate, Zumba, past experience, marketing, accepting resumes, and interview process. Not all classified positions can be filled through a classic, competitive exam. For example, the Classified, Non -Competitive positions in the City are Chemist in the Treatment Plant, Building Official with plumbing certification and Assistant Finance Director. The qualifications of the Program Supervisor are unique and would not be practicable to test for this position. Mr. Barrett made a motion that the Civil Service Commission designated the position of Program Supervisor in the Recreation Department as classified, non-competitive. Mr. Ubaldi seconded and unanimously approved.
