CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION MEETING <br />CITY COUNCIL CAUCUS ROOM <br />MINUTES - APRIL 17, 2017 <br />7:00 P.M. <br />I. ROLL CALL: Chairman J. Barrett called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. <br />PRESENT: J. Barrett, W. Brake and T. Smith <br />ALSO PRESENT: Human Resources Director M. Gallo, Asst. Law Director B. O'Malley, <br />Safety Director D. Glauner, Police Chief J. Gallagher, and Civil Service <br />Secretary S. Berkley <br />II. DISPOSITION OF MINUTES: <br />Motion by Chairman Barrett, seconded by Commissioner Smith, that the minutes of the March 20, <br />2017 meeting be approved as received. <br />Motioned passed unanimously. <br />III. COMMUNICATIONS: <br />There were 20 items of correspondence received and 1 items of correspondence sent out by the <br />Civil Service Commission. <br />IV. OLD BUSINESS: <br />Police Sergeant Promotional Test <br />General discussion commenced regarding the number of candidates to move on to the individual <br />assessment, reviewing of the reference material, the passing score of the exam and the weight of the <br />written and the weight of the individual assessment. It was decided that up to 9 certified candidates <br />will move on to the individual assessment due to several retirements that may happen this year in <br />the Police Department. A list of reference material for the written exam was presented and briefly <br />reviewed with Chief Gallagher and Director Glauner. A calendar was presented to the Commission <br />with tentative dates of events including and leading up to the written exam and individual <br />assessments. Commissioner Brake suggested increasing the passing score from 70% to 75%, and <br />the Commission agreed to have the written exam weighted 60% and the individual assessment <br />weighted 40%. <br />Motion by Commissioner Brake, seconded by Chairman Barrett, to accept the calendar with the <br />correct deadline to be May 22, 2017, accept the references for the written portion of the exam with <br />corrected dates, make the passing score on the written be 75%, and weigh the written 60% and <br />weigh the individual assessment 40%, pursuant to Rule III. <br />Motion passed unanimously. <br />Motion by Chairman Barrett, seconded by Commissioner Smith, to send the top 9 candidates who <br />pass the written examination to Pradco for the individual assessment, Pursuant to Rule III. <br />Motion passed unanimously. <br />
