CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2005 - 186 <br />BY: Mayor O'Grady and The Entire City Council <br />A RESOLUTION TO HONOR AND RECOGNIZE THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF COUNCIL <br />MEMBER GEORGE M. NASHAR <br />WHEREAS, George M. Nashar was born and raised in the Detroit, Michigan area, graduating from Detroit's Visitation High <br />School, and thereafter attending the Detroit Institute of Technology for Business Administration and Accounting. George also L.a`er <br />attended Cuyahoga County Community College for Transportation Management; and <br />WHEREAS, George M. Nashar committed early to a life of public service by serving in the United States Army for two <br />years; and <br />WHEREAS, George M. Nashar has been married to his wife Donna for 40 years, and they have three beautiful daughters and <br />eight wonderful grandchildren; and <br />WHEREAS, George M. Nashar was a career employee of the General Motors Corporation, retiring after 28 years of service <br />to the company, and thereafter was employed in the Office of the Cuyahoga County Clerk of Courts; and <br />WHEREAS, George M. Nashar, finally realizing the errors of his youth, moved out of the State of Michigan and into the <br />State of Ohio, and has now been a resident of the City of North Olmsted since 1976, where he has been active in many community <br />organizations and activities, including the following: North Olmsted Community Council, serving as Director for two (2) terms; 3t. <br />Richard's Church where he has served as usher for 24 years; St. Richard's Parent Club, where he served as President for two (2) years; <br />the Board of Governors for Magnificat High School, where he served for eight (8) years; the Horizons Activity Center Board; Precinct <br />Committeeman for Ward 3E for sixteen (16) years; and the North Olmsted Democratic Club —which has named its annual summer <br />picnic after him in honor of his willingness to not only purchase gourmet hot dogs for the event, but to also stand over the hot grill <br />cooking them; and <br />WHEREAS, George M. Nashar is also a member of the following civic organizations: the Greater Cleveland Suburban <br />Council Association, the Cleveland Traffic Club Association, the American Legion, Clifton Post 421, and the Knights of Columbus <br />Council 4731; and <br />WHEREAS, George M. Nashar has served as the elected Councilman for Ward 3 for sixteen (16) years, during which time <br />he has served as the Council's President Pro Tern (1991), and has also been Chairperson of the following Council Committees: <br />Building, Zoning and Development, Intra- Governmental Relations and Legislation, Long Range Planning, Streets and Transportation, <br />Environmental Control, and Public Safety, Health & Welfare; and <br />WHEREAS, George M. Nashar, while serving on Council, has always actively supported the cause of public safety in the <br />North Olmsted community, for example, promoting a community program for residents to voluntarily turn in guns to the North <br />Olmsted Police Department, sponsoring legislation to ban talking on cell phones while driving in the City, and successfully lobbying <br />the Ohio Department of Transportation to place traffic signals on Stearns Road at the 1 -480 ramp entrances and exits; and <br />WHEREAS, the residents of Ward 3 quickly learned that, no matter what the problem and no matter what the time of day or <br />night, George would always return their phone calls and would always be there to help solve their problems. Those same residents <br />rewarded George's public service by electing and re- electing him to office four (4) times, even though his political opponents, trying <br />their best to unseat him, fielded at least one determined challenger against him in every one of his elections. In 2001, George's ;.,st <br />election, his opponents ran two candidates against him, resulting in a run -off race in which George won handily by almost sixty <br />percent of the vote; and <br />WHEREAS, George Nashar has used his God -given abilities and talents to help not only his Ward 3 residents, but the <br />residents of the entire City of North Olmsted, all of whom have prospered while he served. <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF <br />CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION 1: That the Council of the City of North Olmsted, on behalf of the Mayor, members of the administration and all <br />the residents of the City of North Olmsted hereby honors George M. Nashar. <br />SECTION 2: That this Resolution be spread in full upon the record of this Council and that the Clerk of Council is herrhy <br />directed to forward a duly authenticated and executed copy of this Resolution to George M. Nashar. <br />SECTION 3: That this Resolution shall be in effect from and after the earliest period allowed by law. <br />PASSED: D J.ovj- <br />A <br />BARBARA L.
