CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2005 - 185 <br />BY: Mayor O'Grady and The Entire City Council <br />A RESOLUTION TO HONOR AND RECOGNIZE THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF <br />COUNCIL MEMBER FARRELL DEAN McAAY, SR. <br />WHEREAS, Farrell Dean McKay, Sr., known to all of us as "Dean McKay," was born in Cainsville, Missouri, <br />on November 25, 1931, and graduated from the high school in Eagleville, Missouri, in 1950; and <br />WHEREAS, Dean McKay showed his commitment to public service early in his life by enlisting in the Air <br />Force in 1952 and serving four years' active duty, including a tour on the Korean peninsula, where he was decorated for <br />his service. After his honorable discharge from the Air Force in 1956, Dean continued to serve his country in the <br />Reserves for an additional six (6) years; and <br />WHEREAS, Dean McKay met his wife, Margaret, while they both served in the Air Force. They were <br />married on March 7, 1953. Dean and Margaret have three (3) children, six (6) grandchildren, and they have now been <br />married and devoted to each other for more than 52 years; and <br />WHEREAS, Dean McKay was a career employee of the East Ohio Gas Company, where he worked from 1961 <br />until his retirement in 1994. While at East Ohio Gas, he was promoted to a supervisor position and received numerous <br />perfect attendance awards from the company; and <br />WHEREAS, Dean McKay has been a resident of North Olmsted for over 38 years and, during that time, has <br />actively participated in many community organizations, including: the Knights of Columbus, where he served as Grand <br />Knight, Treasurer and Trustee; the Veterans of Foreign Wars, where he has served as Quartermaster; the United Way <br />Campaign, where he served as a Team Captain; the North Olmsted Democrat Club, where he served as President and <br />Vice President; the Holy Name Society; the North Olmsted Community Council, where he served as a Director; St. <br />Richard's Church, where he continues to serve as an usher; and the North Olmsted Civil Service Commission; and <br />WHEREAS, Dean McKay first served on City Council as a Councilman at Large, and has now, since 1989, <br />served as the elected Councilman for Ward 4. During his many years on Council, Dean has served the City's <br />government in a variety of ways, including President Pro Tem of Council, Chairman or member of virtually every <br />Council committee; member of the City's Ethics Commission and Parks and Recreation Commission; member of the <br />Risk Management Task Force; member of the Senior Citizen Housing Committee; and member of the North Olmsted <br />Transportation Study Team; and <br />WHEREAS, while serving these many years on City Council, Dean McKay has been a constant and well - <br />respected voice for the people of Ward 4, unselfishly and tirelessly responding in a proactive way to every request from <br />every resident in his Ward who needed him. Dean has never been afraid to take on any foe or wage any battle on behalf <br />of his constituents, no matter what the odds and no matter what was demanded of him in time and effort; and <br />WHEREAS, Dean's commitment and devotion to his constituents in Ward 4 may have been best exemplified <br />by his 16 -year long battle to protect the residents of the Park West Subdivision against proposed commercial <br />development of a certain vacant parcel of land located nearby them; and <br />WHEREAS, Dean McKay has used his God -given abilities and talents to help not only his Ward 4 residents, <br />but the residents of the entire City of North Olmsted, all of whom have prospered while he served; <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED, <br />COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION 1: That the Council of the City of North Olmsted, on behalf of the Mayor, members of the <br />administration and all the residents of the City of North Olmsted hereby honors Farrell Dean McKay, Sr. <br />SECTION 2: That this Resolution be spread in full upon the record of this Council and that the Clerk of <br />Council is hereby directed to forward a duly authenticated and executed copy of this Resolution to Farrell Dean McKay, <br />Sr. <br />SECTION 3: That this Resolution shall be in effect from and after the earliest period allowed by law. <br />PASSE\b fib, a00J First Reading: Ja ao OS' <br />Second Reading: <br />Third Reading: <br />Committee: <br />A TTEST: <br />BAR ARA L.
