CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2005 - 184 <br />BY: Mayor O'Grady and The Entire City Council <br />A RESOLUTION TO HONOR AND RECOGNIZE THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF <br />COUNCIL MEMBER CAROL YN J. KASLER <br />WHEREAS, Carolyn J. Kasler attended and graduated from Bowling Green State University, majoring in <br />English and receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in 1971. She then began a career in education, teaching Cleveland <br />area children at West Tech, Byzantine Catholic, and Cleveland Heights High School; and <br />WHEREAS, Carolyn J. Kasler is married to Bob and they have three talented children, Kim (Cassano), Jeff, <br />and Lisa, and one adorable grandchild; and <br />WHEREAS, Carolyn J. Kasler, looking for new challenges in life, returned to school in 1986, attending and <br />graduating from Cleveland Marshall College of Law with a Juris Doctor degree cum laude. She was ranked in the top <br />eight percent (8 %) of her class. She also served as Editor of the Cleveland State Law Review, and published an <br />education - related law article entitled, "Reading, Writing, But No Biting: Isolating School Children with AIDS;" and <br />WHEREAS, Carolyn J. Kasler, while raising her children and employed as an attorney with a prestigious <br />downtown law firm, decided to seek more new challenges in her life, and, in 1991, successfully ran for and won a seat <br />on the North Olmsted Board of Education, where she once again served the cause of public education with talent and <br />distinction. While a member of the school board, Carolyn served on the North Olmsted Schools Advisory Board and, in <br />1993, was Chairperson of the Annual Fundraiser for the North Olmsted Education Association; and <br />WHEREAS, Carolyn J. Kasler —wife, mother, attorney and now school board member, was presented with <br />another challenge in 1994 when then North Olmsted Mayor Ed Boyle tapped her to become the City's first female <br />Director of Public Safety, a position in which she again served with talent and distinction until December 31, 1997; and <br />WHEREAS, this City Council, recognizing the energy, talent, community spirit and experience of Carolyn J. <br />Kasler, selected Carolyn in January 1998 to fill a vacancy in the office of Council Member at Large, and the citizens of <br />North Olmsted, equally astute, elected Carolyn to that office in 1999 and re- elected her in 2003; and <br />WHEREAS, while serving the residents of North Olmsted in her various official capacities, Carolyn J. Kasler <br />also found time to also be an active participant in many community organizations, including: the North Olmsted <br />Chamber of Commerce, the North Olmsted Kiwanis Organization, the North Olmsted Athletic Eagle Boosters, the <br />North Olmsted Cable Advisory Board, the North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Commission, and the North Olmsted <br />Tax Incentive Review Board; and <br />WHEREAS, Carolyn J. Kasler also, while engaged in all of the above activities, volunteered to serve as one of <br />the first Magistrates in the North Olmsted Youth Diversion Program, using her talents and skills as both an educator and <br />lawyer to make a difference in the lives of many teenage children in North Olmsted; and <br />WHEREAS, while serving on City Council from 1999 until her family moved from North Olmsted in 2005, <br />Carolyn was always an eloquent and passionate voice for the worthy causes and issues she cared most deeply about, <br />including the City's Safe Traffic Oriented Policing ( "STOP ") program, which she designed and sponsored, and which has <br />provided increased traffic safety enforcement in the City without added expense to North Olmsted taxpayers; and <br />WHEREAS, Carolyn J. Kasler, as School Board member, Safety Director, and Council Member at Large, has <br />always used her God -given abilities and talents, to educate and serve the residents of the City of North Olmsted; <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED, <br />COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION 1: That the Council of the City of North Olmsted, on behalf of the Mayor, members of the <br />administration and all the residents of the City of North Olmsted hereby honors Carolyn Kasler. <br />SECTION 2: That this Resolution be spread in full upon the record of this Council and that the Clerk of <br />Council is hereby directed to forward a duly authenticated and executed copy of this Resolution to Carolyn Kasler. <br />CTION 3: That this Resolution shall be in effect from and after the earliest period allowed by law. <br />PASSED: D S' First Reading: 14 X D D S__ <br />Second Reading. <br />Third Reading: <br />Committee: <br />A TTEST: <br />i -15k_h - <br />BARBARA L.
