CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2005-160 <br />BY: THE MAYOR AND THE ENTIRE CITY COUNCIL <br />A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE ACHIEVEMENT BY <br />MICHAEL CHRISTOPHER STEWARD <br />OF THE EAGLE SCOUT AWARD IN BOY SCOUTING <br />WHEREAS, this Council and Administration recognize and reaffirm their dedication to organized Scouting; and <br />WHEREAS, this Council and the Administration further recognize that those participating in Scouting, both the <br />youth and their leaders, are an invaluable asset to the community and the Nation, and that the ideals of Scouting, the Scout <br />Oath and the Scout Law are commitments that all citizens should strive for; and <br />WHEREAS, when one of our young citizens has been committed to Scouting to such an extent that he earns the <br />rank of Eagle Scout, it is truly a noteworthy accomplishment; and <br />WHEREAS, MICHAEL, began his Scouting career as a Tiger Cub in first grade with Pack 53; he earned the <br />Arrow of Light Award, the highest honor in Cub Scouting; and <br />WHEREAS, MICHAEL is currently a member of Boy Scout Troop 53 and has served as Patrol Leader for two <br />terms, as Assistant Patrol Leader for two terms and as Senior Patrol Leader; he earned the Baeden Powell Honor Patrol <br />Award; he has participated in various Scouting activities including kayaking on the South Carolina Outer Banks and <br />earned the 50 -miler award; and <br />WHEREAS, MICHAEL, in achieving his Eagle Scout Award has earned twenty -seven Merit Badges; and <br />WHEREAS, MICHAEL'S Eagle Scout Project was a book drive and food drive for St. Herman's of Alaska <br />Helping House, a shelter for homeless men in the Cleveland area. In addition, children's books collected from the drive <br />were donated to Birch Elementary School library. MICHAEL'S goal was to collect seven hundred and fifty books, : ; .d <br />the collection actually generated over one thousand books to benefit St. Herman's of Alaska Helping House Monastery <br />and the Birch Elementary School library; and <br />WHEREAS, MICHAEL, while an active Scout also participated in school activities at North Olmsted Middle <br />School and High School were he currently is in his junior year; he has been a member of the Marching Band for three <br />years and is the saxophone section leader; he is a member of the Wind Ensemble as first chair Oboist; he plays the English <br />Horn for the Orchestra; he started the extra - curricular Jazz Band in which he plays alto and tenor saxophone; he is a <br />member of the Philanthropy Club, participates in the Junior State of America political discussion group, is a member of <br />the Academic Team and, as a member of the Math Team, achieved the highest score of North Olmsted students on the <br />Ohio Mathematics League; his honors include the second highest score on the AMC -12 in North Olmsted High School as <br />a sophomore, History Student of the Year both freshman and sophomore year, the Science Department Award, Pythagoras <br />Award in Math, Spanish Student of the Year, and Gold Renaissance Scholar through high school; and <br />WHEREAS, the reception of the Eagle Scout Award by MICHAEL CHRISTOPHER STEWARD is a noteworthy <br />accomplishment deserving of the congratulations of the entire community. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMST�� O, <br />COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION 1: That this Council and City Administration extend best wishes and heartiest congratulations to <br />MICHAEL CHRISTOPHER STEWARD on his achievement of the rank of Eagle Scout. <br />SECTION 2: That the Clerk of Council is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to MICHAEL, <br />CHRISTOPHER STEWARD. <br />Passed: <br />Att t: � <br />��-a -cwt..
