I< CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED RESOLUTION NO. 2005 - 7 BY: The Mayor and Entire City Council C, t,6,tL (, /�) (/'11 � A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING OPPOSITION TO OHIO HOUSE BILL 175 AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY WHEREAS, House Bill 175 has been introduced in the Ohio General Assembly; and WHEREAS, House Bill 175 requires the Board of Building Standards to adopt a statewide uniform residential building code for one, two and three family dwelling houses and accessory buildings incidental to those dwelling houses; and WHEREAS, House Bill 175 among other things, removes the authority of a municipal corporation to require the licensing of residential contractors; and WHEREAS, the local government is in the best position to make judgments concerning local requirements that should be considered before establishing local building standards; and WHEREAS, House Bill 175 would usurp the authority of local governments to establish standards for construction materials and design that are best suited for that community; and WHEREAS, the Mayor and Council therefore desire to express opposition to Ohio House Bill 175; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA, STATE OF OHIO, THAT: SECTION 1. The Council of the City of North Olmsted, Ohio, wishes to express its opposition to House Bill 175 and urge the Ohio General Assembly to defeat the legislation so as to allow local governments to exercise their powers of local self - government. SECTION 2. The Clerk of Council be, and she hereby is, directed to forward a copy of this Resolution to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ohio Senator Robert F. Spada, and Ohio House Representative Sally Conway Kilbane and urge them to oppose House Bill 175. The Clerk is further authorized to forward a copy of this Resolution to all cities in Cuyahoga County as an indication of the Council's urging for them to pass similar legislation opposing House Bill 175.
