I< <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2005 - 7 <br />BY: The Mayor and Entire City Council <br />C, t,6,tL (, /�) (/'11 � <br />A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING OPPOSITION TO OHIO HOUSE <br />BILL 175 AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY <br />WHEREAS, House Bill 175 has been introduced in the Ohio General Assembly; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, House Bill 175 requires the Board of Building Standards to adopt a <br />statewide uniform residential building code for one, two and three family dwelling <br />houses and accessory buildings incidental to those dwelling houses; and <br />WHEREAS, House Bill 175 among other things, removes the authority of a <br />municipal corporation to require the licensing of residential contractors; and <br />WHEREAS, the local government is in the best position to make judgments <br />concerning local requirements that should be considered before establishing local <br />building standards; and <br />WHEREAS, House Bill 175 would usurp the authority of local governments to <br />establish standards for construction materials and design that are best suited for that <br />community; and <br />WHEREAS, the Mayor and Council therefore desire to express opposition to <br />Ohio House Bill 175; and <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA, STATE OF OHIO, THAT: <br />SECTION 1. The Council of the City of North Olmsted, Ohio, wishes to express <br />its opposition to House Bill 175 and urge the Ohio General Assembly to defeat the <br />legislation so as to allow local governments to exercise their powers of local self - <br />government. <br />SECTION 2. The Clerk of Council be, and she hereby is, directed to forward a <br />copy of this Resolution to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ohio Senator <br />Robert F. Spada, and Ohio House Representative Sally Conway Kilbane and urge them to <br />oppose House Bill 175. The Clerk is further authorized to forward a copy of this <br />Resolution to all cities in Cuyahoga County as an indication of the Council's urging for <br />them to pass similar legislation opposing House Bill 175. <br />
