CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2005-5 <br />BY: THE MAYOR AND THE ENTIRE CITY COUNCIL <br />A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE ACHIEVEMENT BY <br />JOSEPH MICHAEL SCHOCH <br />OF THE EAGLE SCOUT AWARD IN BOY SCOUTING <br />WHEREAS, this Council and Administration recognize and reaffirm their dedication to organized Scouting; and <br />WHEREAS, this Council and the Administration further recognize that those participating in Scouting, both the <br />youth and their leaders, are an invaluable asset to the community and the Nation, and that the ideals of Scouting, the Scout <br />Oath and the Scout Law are commitments that all citizens should strive for; and <br />WHEREAS, when one of our young citizens has been committed to Scouting to such an extent that he earns the <br />rank of Eagle Scout, it is truly a noteworthy accomplishment; and <br />WHEREAS, JOSEPH, was a member of Indian Guides through first grade and in 1994, as a second - grader, <br />became a member of Cub Scout Pack 53 at Pine Elementary School; and <br />WHEREAS, JOSEPH, at age eleven became a Boy Scout with Troop 53 and has held several leadership positions <br />including Assistant Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, Troop Librarian, Troop Guide, Senior Patrol Leader and Junior Assistant <br />Scoutmaster; and <br />WHEREAS, JOSEPH, in achieving his Eagle Scout Award has earned 28 Merit Badges; and <br />WHEREAS, JOSEPH'S Eagle Scout project benefited the North Olmsted Special Children First, a day care center <br />for children with special needs. His project involved restoring an unusable storage shed into a safe, clean, usable work <br />space for the staff at the day care. The project goals included weeding and mulching the surrounding area, removing <br />debris, adding ventilation and an access door to the loft area, staining of the exterior building and waterproofing the fence; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, JOSEPH, while an active Scout also participated in many school activities including the North <br />Olmsted Marching Band where he has been a member for four years, he has lettered in band, and has been a section leader <br />for the baritone section and is active with the Wind Ensemble; he has volunteered his time through the Key Club and <br />received an award in his junior year for his involvement with the community group Citizens in Action, Youth for Youth, <br />promoting diversity; and <br />WHEREAS, JOSEPH became interested in theater productions as a Middle School student and has pursued his <br />interest at the High School where he has been active in every play production either as a member of the stage crew or a <br />thespian; and, as a senior, was chosen for a student director position and is secretary/treasurer of the thespian troupe; and <br />WHEREAS, JOSEPH has been active with the Polaris Teaching Profession Program for the past two years and is <br />earning college credits toward his goal as an education major, and he will pursue his teaching degree at Bowling Green <br />State University; and <br />WHEREAS, JOSEPH is a member of St. Clarence Church where he served as an acolyte and is an active member <br />of the Youth Ministry, and he has volunteered his time assisting with the Youth Mass Service as well as being a team <br />leader of the eighth grade retreat team. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED, <br />COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION 1: That this Council and City Administration extend best wishes and heartiest congratulations to <br />JOSEPH MICHAEL SCHOCH on his achievement of the rank of Eagle Scout. <br />SECTION 2: That the Clerk of Council be, and she is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to <br />JOSEPH MICHAEL SCHOCH. <br />Passed: <br />Atr <br />Barbara L.
