Public Health
Yreveni Yrornotc. Proteci.
TvorYheast Ohiu Publie llcalth Partnersliip
t
F+ t = t
Chapter 3709 oi'the Ohio Revised Code siipulates that each ciry i? the State of Oliio "...must provide
health services either through a city health disirict or b}' a valid conlract or union with the county health district
oi- an adjacent city health district." The Director of the Ohio Department of Healtli certifies this provision of
health services annually. To remain certified, the conh-act needs to be approved by your council and returned to
the Cuyahoga County Board of Health by December 31, 2007.
The Board of Health is cliai-ging a uniform rate of $3.60 per pE;rson throughout the health district for
2008 services, matching the 2007 rate. This represents the total cost for all contract public health services and
is amoiig the lowest rate in the State of Ohio for a general health district.
Community service is the most important part of our public health mission. We make it our priority to
stay in close contact with community leaders to identify emerging public health concerns. Based on these new
requests and community needs, the Cuyahoga County Board of health expanded our Epidemiology and
Surveillance services in 2007 to include assessment of reported cancer cluster concerns. Our annual
distribution of over 50,000 fishmeal baits designed to vaccinate raccoons and prevent and control the movement
of raccoon strain rabies into Cuyahoga County was very successful, with only one recorded case of raccoon
rabies in the county this year. Our Vl/est Nile Virus program was also very successful in limiting mosquito-
borne disease in our contract communities.
We have been working diligently to educate the public on the Consumer Products Safety Commission
information concerning children's toys tJiat may contain lead. We are continuing to track cases of Methicillin
Resistant Staphloccocus Aureus (MRSA) among high school athletes and to make recommendations on
reducing exposures. We are now preparing to deliver 25,000 doses of flu vaccine to seniors and other
vulnerable members of our community just as we increase community awareness and preparedness on
pandemic influenza.
We remain committed to delivering high quality public health services to your community. Please
contact ine if you have any questions concerning the 2008 contract or if you would like us to come to your city
and present our contract to your administration or council.
Sincerely,
,
?
Terrence M.
