<br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2004 - 204 <br />By: Mayor Musial <br />A RESOL UTION A UTHORIZING APPLICATION FOR AND <br />ACCEPTANCE OF A DIRECT GRANT FROM THE UNITED STATES <br />DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY IN AN AMOUNT OF UP TD <br />FIFTY THOUSAND DOLLARS ($50,000.00) TO BE USED FOR THE <br />PURCHASE OF EQUIPMENT TO IMPROVE THE ABILITY OF THE <br />NORTH OLMSTED POLICE DEPARTMENT TO RESPOND TO AND DEAL <br />WITH A TERRORIST ATTACK OR INCIDENT IN THE CITY OF NORTH <br />OLMSTED; AND FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR OR CHIEF OF <br />POLICE, AS APPLICABLE, TO EXECUTE NECESSARY GRANT- <br />RELATED DOCUMENTS, AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. <br />WHEREAS, the Chief of Police has requested authorization from this Council to apply <br />for and accept, on behalf of the City, a direct grant from the United States Department of <br />Homeland Security in an amount of up to Fifty Thousand Dollars ($50,000.00) to be used for the <br />purchase of equipment to improve the ability of the North Olmsted police department to respond <br />to and deal with a terrorist attack or incident in the City of North Olmsted; and <br />WHEREAS, it is the desire of this Council to authorize the said application and accept <br />the grant, and further authorize the Mayor or Police Chief, as applicable, to execute necessary <br />grant-related documents; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA, AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION l: That this Council does hereby authorize the Chief of Police to apply for, <br />and, if awarded, accepts on behalf of the City, a grant in an amount of up to Fifty Thousand <br />Dollars ($50,000.00) from the United States Department of Homeland Security to be used to <br />purchase equipment to improve the ability of the North Olmsted police department to respond to <br />and deal with a terrorist attack or incident in the City of North Olmsted; and further authorizes <br />the Mayor or the Chief of Police, as applicable and in accordance with the provisions of the City <br />Charter, to execute necessary grant-related documents.. <br />SECTION 2: That this Resolution is hereby declared to be an emergency measure <br />immediately necessary for the preservation of the public health, safety, and welfare, and for the <br />further reason that it is necessary that this Resolution go into effect immediately so that the City <br />may take all action necessary at the earliest possible date to be prepared for the possibility of <br />terrorist attacks or incidents in the community, and further provided that it receives the <br />affirmative vote of two-thirds of the members of this Council, it shall take effect and be in force <br />immediately upon its passage and approval by the Mayor.
