<br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTIONS 1163.02 AND 1163.33 OF CHAPTER 1163
<br />OF THE ZONING CODE ENTITLED SIGNS SO AS TO RESTRICT BUILDING
<br />MATERIALS FOR AND DESIGN OF TEMPORARYSIGNS.
<br />WHEREAS, Chapter 1163 of the Zoning Code provides for the regulation of signage on
<br />private property located in the City; and
<br />WHEREAS, this Council desires to regulate the building materials used for and the design
<br />of Temporary Signs in Chapter 1163 in order to protect the health, safety and general welfare of all
<br />citizens, as well as to enhance the aesthetics of the City; and
<br />WHEREAS, the Planning Commission on the day of , 2004, by
<br />formal motion, recommended that this Ordinance, amending Sections 1163.02 and 1163.33 of the
<br />Zoning Code be (approved)(disapproved);
<br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
<br />NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO:
<br />SECTION 1: That Section 1163.02 of the Zoning Code, entitled "DEFINTIONS," which
<br />presently read as follows:
<br />1163.02 DEFINITIONS.
<br />As used in this chapter unless the context otherwise indicates:
<br />(a) "Sign" shall mean any writing, pictorial representation, illustration, emblem,
<br />symbol, design, or other figure of similar character that is a structure or a part
<br />thereof, or is attached to or in any manner represented on a building, vehicle, or
<br />other structure, and is visible from any public right-of-way or any other lot or
<br />parcel, and is used for purposes of advertisement, announcement, declaration,
<br />demonstration, identification or expression.
<br />(b) "Illuminated Sign" shall mean any sign which has characters, letters, figures,
<br />designs, or outlines illuminated externally or internally by any light source other
<br />than non-reflected natural daylight.
<br />(c) "Ground Sign" shall mean any sign, excluding a billboard, supported by uprights,
<br />braces, or base or stem of any material, placed upon the ground and not attached
<br />to any building.
<br />(d) "Wall Sign" shall mean any sign applied or attached to, or painted onto, any
<br />exterior wall surface of any building or structure.
<br />(e) "Canopy Sign" shall mean any sign attached to the soffit or fascia of a canopy,
<br />marquee, awning, covered entrance, covered walkway, arbor, pergola or other
<br />similar structure.
