<br />BY: THE MAYOR AND THE ENTIRE CITY COUNCIL
<br />A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE ACHIEVEMENT BY
<br />KEVIN BARTON KURTZ
<br />OF THE EAGLE SCOUT AWARD IN BOY SCOUTING
<br />WHEREAS, this Council and Administration recognize and reaffirm their dedication to organized Scouting; and
<br />WHEREAS, this Council and the Administration further recognize that those participating in Scouting, both the
<br />youth and their leaders, are an invaluable asset to the community and the Natioq and that the idea.ls of Scouting, the Scout
<br />Oath and the Scout Law are commitments that all citizens should strive for; and
<br />WHEREAS, when one of our young citizens has been committed to Scouting to such an extent that he earns the
<br />rank of Eagle Scout, it is truly a noteworthy accomplishment; and
<br />WHEREAS, KEVIN BARTON KURTZ began his Scouting career at age 6 while in the first grade at Spruce
<br />Elementary School; he advanced through the ranks of Wolf, Beax and Webelos Scout earning the Arrow of Light, the
<br />highest honor for a Cub Scout, and he is currently a member of Boy Scout Troop 53; and
<br />WHEREAS, KEVIN has been an active participant of Boy Scout Troop 53 and has participated in 6 summer
<br />camps and numerous weekend outings, including canoeing, backpacking, caving and bicycling; and
<br />WHEREAS, KEVIN has served his fellow Scouts in the leadership positions of Assistant Patrol Leader, Patrol
<br />Leader, Chaplain Aide, Quartermaster, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Senior Patrol Leader, and is currently a Junior
<br />Assistant Scoutmaster; he is a member of the Order of the Arrow, Cuyahoga Lodge # 17, Scouting's National Honor
<br />Society; he is a member of the National Eagle Scout Association and the Eagle Scout Association of Cleveland; and
<br />WHEREAS, KEVIN, in achieving his Eagle Scout Award earned twenty-seven Merit Badges; and
<br />WHEREAS, KEVIN completed his Eagle Scout Project while attending a church mission trip to Cortland, New
<br />York in June 2003, and his project consisted of raising funds, which totaled $2,817, for the purchase of tools and materials
<br />which were used to construct wheelchair access ramps for physically challenged citizens who needed them; in addition,
<br />improvements were made to their homes that included painting, sealing a roof, and removing weeds and debris; further,
<br />KEVIN donated tools valued at $1,385 to Westla.ke United Methodist Church that will be invaluable at future youth work
<br />camps and other mission projects; and
<br />WHEREAS, while undertaking all these Scouting projects, KEVIN, who will be a Senior at North Olmsted High
<br />School this fa11, is a member of the High School foatball team and the track and field team; he has worked with the theater
<br />program at the Middle School and High School constructing sets and serving as a member of the stage crew; he is a
<br />member of the Westlake United Methodist Church where he actively participates in the Men's Group and has helped with
<br />numerous fund-raising events conducted by the Men's Group and the Youth Group; he has worked on various church
<br />mission projects and has attended two week-long work camps with his church; and
<br />WHEREAS, the reception of the Eagle Scout Award by KEVIN BARTON KURTZ is a noteworthy
<br />accomplishment deserving of the congratulations of the entire community.
<br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED,
<br />COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO:
<br />SECTION l: That this Council and City Administration extend best wishes and heartiest congratulations to
<br />KEVIN BARTON KURTZ on his achievement of the rank of Eagle Scout.
<br />SECTION 2: That the Clerk of Council be, and she is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to
<br />KEViN BARTON KURTZ.
