10.4 AlI vacation time shall be paid at the regular wage rate, except when emptoyee <br />requests vacation credit accumulation. For the purpose of calculating vacation pay, when vacation <br />accumulation is requested by an employee, the wage rate at the time the vacation was requested to <br />be accumulated sha.ll be used to calculate vacation pay. If due to scheduling, vacations cannot be <br />taken subsequent to the year such vacation was earned and are accumulated and taken in the next <br />subsequent year, the rate of vacation pay shall be at the rate of pay during the year such vacation <br />is taken; provided the same is approved by the Department Head. <br />10.5 Vacations must be scheduled with and authorized by the Chief of Police or his <br />designee. Schedules are to be coordina.ted so as not to disrupt necessary City services or functions <br />of the department. <br />10.6. If an employee is terminated (voluntarily or involuntarily) prior to taking his <br />vacation and has completed one (1) year of employment with the City, he shall receive the <br />prorated portion of any accrued but unused vacation at the time of separation. In case of death of <br />an employee, the unused vacation leave shall be paid to the estate. <br />10.7. A) An employee may ha.ve the option of using a personal day as a day of extended <br />vacation, with prior approval of the Chief of Police or his designee. <br />B) The employer may have the option of requiring the employee to take one week of his <br />vacation in increments of not less than 5 consecutive days. The remaining vacation time can be <br />taken as needed by the employee, for example, one or two days at a time. An employee will give <br />the supervisor at least forty-eight (48) hours advance notice in writing. In an emergency situation, <br />verbal comxnunication with the supervisor is appropriate and may justify waiving advance <br />notification. <br />17
