? <br />CITY OF NORTH OLM5TED <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2004 - 59 <br />BY: Mayor Musial <br />A RESOL UTION CELEBRATING ARBOR <br />DA Y IN THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />WHEREAS, in 1872, J. Sterling Mortan proposed to the Nebraska Board of Agriculture <br />that a special day be set aside for the ptanting of trees; and <br />WHEREAS, this holiday, called ARBOR DAY, was first observed with the planting of <br />more than a million trees in Nebraska, and Arbor Day is now observed throughout the nation and <br />the world; and <br />WHEREAS, trees reduce the erosion of our precious topsoil by wind and water, cut <br />heating and caoling costs, moderate the temperature, clean the air, produce oxygen and provide <br />habitat for wildlife; and <br />WHEREAS, trees are a renewable resource giving us paper, wood far our homes, fuel for <br />our fires and countless other wood products; and <br />WHEREAS, trees in our City increase property values, enhance the economic vitality of <br />business areas, and beautify our community; and <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />NORTH OLMSTED, CUYAHOGA COUNTY, AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION 1: That this Council endorses and supports the Mayor's proclamation <br />declaring April 30, 2004 be ARBOR DAY in North Olmsted. All citizens are urged to support <br />efforts to protect our trees and woodlands. Further, we urge a11 citizens to plant trees to gladden <br />the heart and promote the well-being of this and future generations. <br />SECTION 2: That the Clerk of Council be, and she is hereby directed to transmit a copy <br />of this Resolution to Dave Wendell, the Forester of the City of North Olmsted. <br />SECTION 3: That this Resolution shall take effect and be in force from and after the <br />earliest period allowed by law. <br />?
