<br /> <br /> <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2002-188 <br />By: Council Member Miller <br />A RESOLUTION ENCOURAGING THE CONGRESS TO <br />PASS SENATE BILL NO. 2935 WHICH WOULD ALLOW <br />LOCAL HEALTH DEPARTMENTS TO APPLY FOR <br />FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE DIRECTLY TO THE CENTERS <br />FOR DISEASE CONTROL UNDER THE MOSQUITO <br />ABATEMENT FOR SAFETY AND HEALTH ACT, AND <br />DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. <br />WHEREAS, on September 13, 2002 Senate Bil1 No. 2935 was introduced which <br />would amend the Public Health Service Act to provide grants for the operation of <br />mosquito control programs to prevent and control mosquito-borne diseases, also known <br />as the "Mosquito Abatement for Safety and Health Act;" and <br />WHEREAS, due to the epidemic of mosquito-borne West Nile Virus this past <br />season placing Ohio third in the nation with 409 human cases and 21 deaths, it is the <br />desire ofthis Council to support Senate Bill No. 2935; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION 1: That the Council of the City of North Olmsted supports and hereby <br />encourages the Senate of the United States to pass Senate Bili No. 2935, entitled "The <br />Mosquito Abatement for Safety and Heaith Act." <br />SECTION Z: That the Clerk of Council is hereby directed to forward a copy of <br />this Resolution immediately upon its passage and approval to Senators George Voinovich <br />and Mike DeWine, and Congressman Dennis Kucinich, and to the following 5tate of <br />Ohio officials: Governor Bob Taft, State Senator Robert Spada and State Representative <br />Sally Conway Kilbane. <br />SECTION 3: That this Resolution is hereby declared to be an emergency <br />measure immediately necessary for the preservation of the public health, safety and <br />welfare, and for the further reason that it is necessary that this Resolution becomes <br />effective immediately so that the residents of North Olmsted may become knowledgeable <br />concerning, and further may be protected against, possible unhealthy conditions relating <br />
