CITY OF NORTH OLM5TED RESOLUTION NO. 2002 -143 BY: Mayor Musial A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE SECOND ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION OF THE NORTHEAST OHIO PUBLIC ENERGY COUNCIL AS AMENDED. WHEREAS, the Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council (NOPEC) was formed in November, 2000, by holding its first General Assembly meeting, creating the largest intergovernmental public aggregation group in the United States. Ninety-five (95) municipalities in eight (8) counties joined NOPEC, and member communities caucused by county and elected county representatives to the NOPEC Board of Directors; and WHEREAS, the Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council is comprised of dedicated public servants whom have toiled long and hard to bring lower energy prices to Northeast Ohio. NOPEC's Chairman, Eastlake Mayor Dan DiLiberto, and his fellow officers and Board of Directors, serve without compensation, yet are committed and always willing to make time when NOPEC business demands it; and WHEREAS, the Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council has saved consumers millions of dollars without using any taxpayer dollars. They have negotiated the largest opt-out electricity contract in the country, providing customers in our community with significant energy options and cost savings. In response to votes last May authorizing the formation of a natural gas opt-out aggregation, they have continued cost savings opportunities by negotiating a deal with a gas supplier that is the best offer currently available on the market. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED, CUYAHOGA COUNTY, AND STATE OF OHIO: SECTION 1: That the Mayor and Council of the City of North Olmsted, join in recognizing the Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council on the occasion of its Second Anniversary Celebration. We applaud their exemplary work in providing our community with significant energy cost savings, thank them for their selfless commitment, and wish them much success in all their future endeavors. SECTION 2: That the Clerk of Council be and hereby is directed to forward a fully attested copy of this Resolution to the Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council.
