CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />ORDINANCE NO. 2002 -125 <br />BY: Mayor Musial <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTIONS 373.05, 373. 06, 373. 08, <br />AND 373.15, AND REPEALING SECTIONS 373. 07 AND 3 7310 OF <br />CHAPTER 373 OF THE TRAFFIC CODE, ENTITLED "BICYCLES <br />AND BICYCLE REGISTRATION, " IN ORDER TO BETTER <br />FACILITATE THE ISSUANCE OF BICYCLE LICENSES BY THE <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT, AND TO IMPROVE BICYCLE SAFETY IN <br />THE CITY AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. <br />WHEREAS, the City's bicycle registration laws, which are codified at Chapter <br />373 of the Traffic Code, have not been reviewed or amended by this Council since 1964; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, under the present registration scheme of Chapter 373, operators of <br />bicycles on sidewalks, streets, public paths or public ways set aside for the exclusive use <br />of bicycles must apply to the Chief of Police for a bicycle license and pay a fee for said <br />license; and <br />WHEREAS, it is the recommendation of the Director of Public Safety that the <br />fee requirement be eliminated from the Code to facilitate the issuance of licenses by <br />members of the bike patrol acting on behalf of the Chief of Police; and <br />WHEREAS, it is the further recommendation of the Director of Public Safety <br />that the bicycle safety regulations within Chapter 373 be amended to pernut cyclists to <br />ride upon streets two abreast and to prohibit children under the age of eight (8) years <br />from riding bicycles on public streets. <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED, CUYAHOGA COUNTY, AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION 1: That Sections 373.05, 373.06, 373.08 and 373.15 of Chapter 373 of <br />the Traffic Code entitled "Bicycles and Bicycle Registration," which presently read as <br />follows: <br />373.05 LICENSE APPLICATION, FEE AND TERM. <br />(a) Application for registration of a bicycle shall be made to the Chief of Police <br />upon forms provided by him.
