CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED ORDINANCE NO. 2002 -125 BY: Mayor Musial AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTIONS 373.05, 373. 06, 373. 08, AND 373.15, AND REPEALING SECTIONS 373. 07 AND 3 7310 OF CHAPTER 373 OF THE TRAFFIC CODE, ENTITLED "BICYCLES AND BICYCLE REGISTRATION, " IN ORDER TO BETTER FACILITATE THE ISSUANCE OF BICYCLE LICENSES BY THE POLICE DEPARTMENT, AND TO IMPROVE BICYCLE SAFETY IN THE CITY AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. WHEREAS, the City's bicycle registration laws, which are codified at Chapter 373 of the Traffic Code, have not been reviewed or amended by this Council since 1964; and WHEREAS, under the present registration scheme of Chapter 373, operators of bicycles on sidewalks, streets, public paths or public ways set aside for the exclusive use of bicycles must apply to the Chief of Police for a bicycle license and pay a fee for said license; and WHEREAS, it is the recommendation of the Director of Public Safety that the fee requirement be eliminated from the Code to facilitate the issuance of licenses by members of the bike patrol acting on behalf of the Chief of Police; and WHEREAS, it is the further recommendation of the Director of Public Safety that the bicycle safety regulations within Chapter 373 be amended to pernut cyclists to ride upon streets two abreast and to prohibit children under the age of eight (8) years from riding bicycles on public streets. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED, CUYAHOGA COUNTY, AND STATE OF OHIO: SECTION 1: That Sections 373.05, 373.06, 373.08 and 373.15 of Chapter 373 of the Traffic Code entitled "Bicycles and Bicycle Registration," which presently read as follows: 373.05 LICENSE APPLICATION, FEE AND TERM.
