CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION. 2002 -113 <br />BY: Mayor Norman T. Musial <br />A RESOLUTION AIITHORIZING THE NORTH OLMSTED CHIEF OF POLICE <br />TO FILE AN APPLICATION FOR THE FY 2002-2003 DRUG ABUSE <br />RESISTANCE EDUCATION (D.A.RE.) LAW ENFORCEMENT GRANT FUNDED <br />THROiIGH THE STATE OF OHIO D.A.RE. GRANTS PROGRAM, AND <br />DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. <br />WHEREA5, the North Olmsted DARE Program has been in existence since <br />1993; and <br />WHEREAS, the North Olmsted DARE Program has been successful in providing <br />direction to the youth of the Community regarding the harmful effects of substance <br />abuse; and <br />WHEREAS, the North Olmsted DARE Program is facing financial cutbacks for <br />the 2002-2003 school year; and <br />WHEREAS, the State of Ohio established the DARE Grants Program which <br />provides matching funds to defray the cost of an officer's salary up to Fifty (50%) <br />percent. <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED, CUYAHOGA COUNTY, AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION 1: That the Council of the City of North Olmsted hereby authorizes <br />and directs the Chief of Police to apply for the FY 2002-2003 Drug Abuse Resistance <br />Education Law Enforcement Grant. <br />SECTION 2: That this Resolution is hereby declared to be an emergency <br />measure immediately necessary for the preservation of the public health, safety and <br />welfare, and for the reason that it is necessary that this Ordinance go into effect <br />immediately so that it must comply with an August 6, 2002 filing deadline, <br />and further provided it receives the affirmative vote of two-thirds of a11 members of <br />Council, it shall take effect and be in force immediately upon its passage and approval by <br />the Mayor. <br />
