Ordinance No. 2002-20 <br />Page 2 <br />(c) Term of an Interim Appointment. <br />The interim Director sha11 serve at the pleasure of the Mayor for a period not to <br />exceed one year. During the period of the interim Director's service, the Mayor may at any <br />time remove the interim Director from office with or without cause, and without obtaining <br />the consent or concurrence of the Council. <br />(d) Rights to Office Acquired. <br />If the Mayor fails to replace an interim Director with a permanent Director within the <br />year period following his or her appointment as an interim Director, then the interim <br />appourtment sha11 become a permanerrt appointment, and the said Director may thereafter be <br />removed from office only in accordance with the removal provisions of Section 5(a) of this <br />Article of the Charter. <br />SECTION 2 If the foregoing proposal receives the affirmative vote of a majority of the <br />electors voting thereon, then new Section 6 of Article III sha11 be effective as of the earliest date <br />provided by law. <br />SECTION 3. It is the desire of the Council that the ballot for said question shall be in <br />substantially the following form: <br />PROPOSED CHARTER AMENDMENT <br />A majority affirmative vote is necessary for passage. <br />Shall a new Section 6 be added to Article III (The Mayor) of the City <br />Charter to authorize elected first-term Mayors to make interim <br />appointments of Directors, who during their first year of service as <br />Directors may be removed from office by the Mayor without the <br />concurrence of City Council? <br />1:1 Yes <br />1:1 No <br />SECTION 4. The Clerk of Council is authorized and directed to deliver a certified copy of <br />this ordinance to the Board of Elections of Cuyahoga County no later than September 5, 2002. <br />
