CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2002 - 35 <br />BY: MAYOR NORMAN T. MUSIAL AND ALL MEMBERS OF COUNCIL <br />A RESOLUTION DECLA.R.ING APRII. 26, 2002 TO CELEBRATE <br />ARBOR DAY AND THE AWARD OF 2002 TREE CITY USA <br />WHEREAS, in 1872, J. Sterling Morton proposed to the Nebraska Board of Agriculture that a special <br />day be set aside for the planting of trees; and <br />WHEREAS, this holiday, called A.RBOR DAY, was first observed with the planting of more than a <br />million trees in Nebraska, and Arbor Day is now observed throughout the nation and the world; and <br />WHEREAS, trees reduce the erosion of our precious topsoil by wind and water, cut heating and <br />cooling costs, moderate the temperature, clean the air, produce oxygen and provide habitat for wildlife; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, trees are a renewable resource giving us paper, wood for our homes, fuel for our fires and <br />countless other wood products; and <br />WHEREAS, trees in our city increase property values, enhance the economic vitality of business areas, <br />and beautify our community; and <br />WHEREAS, THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED has been recognized as a Tree City USA by the <br />Natianal Arbor Day Foundation for the seventeenth (17) year in a row and desires to cantinue its tree- <br />planting practices; and <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION NO. 1: That APRTL 26, 2002 is proclaimed as ARBOR DAY in the City of North <br />Olmsted. All citizens are urged to celebrate and to support efforts to protect our trees and woodlands. <br />Further, we urge a11 citizens to plant trees to gladden the heart and promote the well-being of this and <br />future generations. <br />SECTION NO. 2: That the Clerk of Council be, and she is hereby directed to transmit a copy <br />of this Resolution to Dave Wendell, the FORESTER of the City of North Olmsted. <br />PASSED: G?,??1:' :), J- O,?? <br />Attest: <br />L.
