? <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2008 -134 <br />By: Council Member Dailey Jones <br />A RESOL UTION IN SUPPORT OF LIBRARY ISSUE 127 AND <br />DECLARING AN EMERGENCY <br />WHEREAS, the Cuyahoga County Public Library will ask residents to approve Issue <br />127 on the November 4, 2008 ballot which will replace two mills and add a half mill; and <br />WHEREAS, Issue 127 is Cuyahoga County Public Library's only local operating support <br />and accounts for nearly half of the Library's annual operating budget; and <br />WHEREAS, Cuyahoga County Public Library is a critical regional resource, with a half <br />million cardholders who visited a branch 7.2 million times last year; and <br />WHEREAS, Cuyahoga County Public Library consistently ranks as one of the nation's <br />best and busiest library systems, circulating over 16 millions items annually; and <br />WHEREAS, Issue 127 will protect Cuyahoga County Public Library, which serves 47 <br />communities in Cuyahoga County through 28 branches; and <br />WHEREAS, effective libraries enrich the lives of individuals, provide critical <br />information for students and organizations, and create meaningful access to modern technology; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, Issue 127 has received the broad support of elected officials, business <br />leaders, organized labor, and many others across the County; and <br />WHEREAS, Issue 127 will provide essential resources for keeping our County Library <br />strong, up-to-date and able to provide excellent service in our community, including: providing <br />up-to-date books, research and reference sources, magazines, CDs, DVDs and other mateiials <br />residents need, stabilizing its capital needs to ensure continued excellent service delivery, <br />continuing educational programs and activities for children, teens and families, and serving <br />seniors through informational programs on health and provide computer instruction, and life-long <br />learning events; and <br />WHEREAS, Issue 127 provides crucial support far one of the most important community <br />assets in the region, and if Issue 127 fails, the Library will be unable to provide the critical library <br />services that local citizens need. <br />e? . ,
