CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2008 - 47 <br />By: Mayor O'Grady & Council Members Barker, Jones, Kearney, Mahoney, Orlowski, Ryan <br />A RESOL UTION URGING THE UNITED STATES SENATE OF THE 110`" <br />UNITED STATES CONGRESS, TO PASS HR 569 ENTITLED THE WATER <br />QUALITY INVESTMENT ACT OF 2007 AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. <br />WHEREAS, many communities in Ohio and across the nation require federal funding to upgrade <br />their sewer and wastewater systems as mandated by the Federal government; and <br />WHEREAS, the Federal government is urged to provide sufficient federal funding to support <br />costly federal mandates imposed on state and local governments 1;o upgrade sewers and water treatment; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, HR 569, the Water Quality Investment Act, authorizes appropriation of $1.8 billion <br />in federal grants administered by EPA to fund the repair and replacement of combined sewer overflows <br />and sanitary sewer overflows and wastewater systems; and <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NORTH <br />OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA, AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION 1: That this Council hereby supports HR 569, the Water Quality Investment Act of <br />2007, and urges adoption by the U.S. Senate. <br />SECTION 2: That the Clerk of Council be, and she hereby is directed to forward a certified <br />copy of this Resolution to Senator George Voinovich and Senator Sherrod Brown. <br />SECTION 3: That this Resolution is hereby declared to be an emergency measure immediately <br />necessary for the preservation of the public health, safety and welfare, and further for the reason that it is <br />necessary that this Resolution go into effect immediately to support our Senate representatives in a timely <br />manner; and further provided it receives the affirmative vote of two-thirds of all members of Council, it <br />shall take effect and be in force immediately upon its passage and approval by the Mayor. <br />PASSED: ( ' 19 <br />ATT ?._ <br />? ; <br />?ARBARA L.
