CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2000-157 <br />BY: COUNCILMAN DEAN MCKAY <br />A RESOLUTION DECLARING DECEMBER 7, 2000 <br />"PEARL HARBOR DAY" AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. <br />WHEREAS, on December 7, 1941, the United States of America was suddenly <br />and deliberately attacked at Pearl Harbor by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, 8 battleships were lost or damaged on the first attack; and <br />WHEREAS, 188 aircraft were destroyed and over 150 were damaged; and <br />WHEREAS, 2,400 service men and women died on December 7, 1941. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION 1: That the Mayor and City Council, recognizing the supreme <br />sacrifice that was made by the service men and women of the United States of America, <br />do adopt and declare December 7, 2000 as "Pearl Harbor Day" in North Olmsted, Ohio. <br />SECTION 2: That this Resolution is hereby declared to be an emergency measure <br />immediately necessary for the preservation of the public health, safety and welfare, and <br />for the further reason that this resolution must take effect immediately so that the City <br />may commemorate Pearl Harbor Day pursuant to this Resolution this year, and further <br />provided it receives the affirmative vote of two-thirds of all members of Council, it shall <br />take effect and be in force immediately upon its passage and approval by the Mayor. <br />Wo: <br />Pas <br />? <br />Parbara L.
