CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2000-160 <br />BY: MAYOR MIJSIAL and ALL MEMBERS of COLTNCIL <br />A RESOLUTION URGING DEVELOPERS DIVERSIFIED, INC. TO FIND A <br />THEATRE OPERATOR WII.,LING TO REOPEN AND RENOVATE THE <br />GREAT NORTHERN CINEMA COMPLEX, AND DECLARING AN <br />EMERGENCY AS AMENDED. <br />WHEREAS, it is the desire of the Mayor and this Council to offer to its residents <br />entertainment in the City which includes a Motion Picture Theatre Cinema Complex; and <br />WI-MREAS, there has been a Motion Picture Theatre in North Olmsted since <br />1966 when the Great Northern Theatre was opened as a Widescreen 70mm Cinerama <br />Theatre; and <br />WHEREAS, in some parts of the United States, former Cinerama and Widescreen <br />Theatres are being renavated and reopened to show newly released movies in 70mm and <br />other Widescreen classic re-releases to receptive audiences; and <br />WHEREAS, for over 34 years the Great Northern 7 Cinema Complex and its <br />predecessor the Crreat Northern Theatre has offered to the residents of the City of North <br />Olmsted and visitors motion picture entertainment; and <br />WHEREAS, the Great Northern 7 Cinema Complex recently closed; and <br />W]HEREAS, the Great Northern 7 Cinema Complex couid also have additional <br />theatres constructed in the rear if needed to increase its screen capacity; and <br />WHEREAS, the Great Northern 7 Cinema Complex has been a part of the past <br />culture of the residents of North Olmsted, is centrally located in the City and offers ample <br />parking and close proximity to many established restaurants and retail establishments. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION 1: That the Mayor and Council of the City of North Olmsted <br />encourages Developers Diversified to find a motion picture theatre operator who will <br />renovate and reopen the Great Northern Cinema Complex. <br />
