CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2000-120 <br />BY: THE MAYOR AND THE ENTIRE COUNCII. <br />A RESOLUTION COWdENDING THE PUBLIC SERVICE OF <br />PRESIDENT OF COUNCII. JAMES D. BOEHMER. <br />WHEREAS, James D. Bcehmer served as Ward 1 Councilman from 1970 through 1973, as Councilman- <br />at-Large from 1976 through 1981, as President of Council from 1982 through 1985, as Councilman-at-Lazge from <br />1988 through 1989, and as President of Council from 1990 through 1997; and <br />WHEREAS, the memory of this good man and his many accomplishments is such that the Mayor and tlris <br />Council wish to pay tribute to lum; and <br />WHEREAS, the tribute afforded to James D. Boehmer is best accomplished by setting forth herein his <br />many accomplishments: <br />James D. Boehmer lived a rich and fiill life. He mazried Mary Ruth Roth on November 17, 1950 and they <br />had tvwo sons, David and Douglas. His wife Ruth passed away in 1991. He was also blessed with a grandson, <br />Douglas Jr., and enjayed hosting his fanuly and friends at Kamp Kozy. <br />Jim Bcehmer was a Veteran and a patriot. He served in the Army during World War II, and was an armed <br />field observer during the Korean Conf]ick He has a long history with the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7647 here <br />in North Olmsted, to include serving as its Comniander. He could be found selling poppies to raise money for the <br />families of deceased Veterans and was active in collecting and distributing food baskets for the needy. <br />His faith was strong and his contributions to his church were many. Jim served as an Usher for almost 40 <br />years at Saix?t Richard's Church, and provided electrical vwrk for their annex and mdrile classrooms. He was a Lay <br />Director o£ the Spiritual Renewal Progam and served far 12 years on the Saint Richard Parish Council. He was a <br />44 year member of the Knights of Columlyus and actively participated in their charitable works, to include collecting <br />food and clothing for the needy on Cleveland's neat westside. <br />Jim's contributians to his community beyond his time on Council were prafound and aften recognized by <br />the awards that he received He was President of Community Council in 1981, C'hairman of Homecoming in 1982, <br />Honorary Parade Marshall in 1983, and received the most prestigious recognition of all when he was selected as <br />North Olmsted Citizen of the Year in 1983. In 1998, he received a special award for extr-"dinary service to his city. <br />As a Director and Charter member of the North Olmsted Optimist Club, 3'im could be found wurking to <br />raise money for handicapped children In the Rotary Club, Tim was instrumental in vworking to make and distribute <br />benches for use in our public parks. At the annual Homecoming celebration, Jim would be the one ensuring that the <br />electrical wiring was properly installed While President of Community Council, Jim vworked to g,et American Flags <br />for display along Lorain Road. Tn these and many other organizutions, Tim worked to ensure that the needy were <br />cazetl for and that our City was served <br />For the foregoing reasons, and for many others, the Mayor and Council wish to recognize the <br />accomplishments of 7ames D. Boehmer, President of Council for the City of North Olmsted. In so dQing, vwe <br />acknowledge that he was first and foremost a servant of the peaple of this City and a good and decent man. He joins <br />with other prominent Council members who have served with distinction. They are honored by the inclusion in the <br />historical record, a document that recognizes all elected o?ff'icials who served our city government from 1950 to the <br />present. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BE THE COUNCII. OF THE CITY OF NORTH <br />OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA, AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION 1: That the Council of the City of North Olxnsted personally and collectively, and on behalf of <br />the Mayor and the Administration and all resicents of the City, honor the memory of James D. Boehmer and extencis <br />its debt of gratitude to him. <br />5ECTION 2: Be it further resolved that this Resolution be spread in full upon the records of this Council, <br />and that the Clerk of Council is hereby clirected to forvvard a duly authenticated and executed copy of this Resolution <br />to his family. <br />S ION 3: That this Resolution shall be in effect from and ?ter the earliest perial allowed by law. <br />Passed: <br />? <br />?
