4; <br />el'N <br />a ,'4; <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2000-80 <br />BY: MAYOR AND ALL MEMBERS OF COUNCII, <br />A RESOL UTION EXPRESSING CONCERN OVER THE HIGH GASOLINE <br />PRICES IN NORTHEASTERN OHIO AND URGING THE REGION'S FEDERAL <br />AND STATE REPRESENTATIVES TO INVESTIGATE INTO THE CAUSES FOR <br />THE HIGH GASOLINE PRICES, AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. <br />WHEREAS, the retail price of gasoline in North Olmsted and in surrounding areas of <br />Northeastern Ohio had soared recently to levels in excess of $2.00 per gallon; and <br />WHEREAS, by way of contrast, the current retail price of gasoline in Erie, <br />Pennsylvania, just across the State line, was only $1.659 per gallon; and <br />WHEREAS, this Council is concerned over the economic impact which such high <br />gasoline prices will have upon North Olmsted residents, especially those who are on fixed <br />incomes and those who must travel long distances as part of their employment; and <br />WHEREAS, this Council wants to send a message to federal and state officials <br />representing this region of Ohio to investigate into the causes of the present high gasoline <br />prices and to take appropriate action upon learning the causes of the present high prices; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION 1: That the Council of the City of North Olmsted hereby express its <br />concern over the currently still high retail price of gasoline at service stations in North <br />Olmsted and throughout the greater Cleveland area in general, and hereby urges all federal and <br />state representatives from this region to inquire into the causes of the current high retail price <br />of gasoline, whether by government or private sector actions, and, upon learning the cause for <br />the current high price, to take whatever government action is appropriate and necessary to <br />assist in the reduction of prices to a fair market level. <br />SECTION 2: That the Clerk of this Council is hereby directed to forward an attested <br />copy of this Resolution, immediately upon its passage and approval, to Congressman Dennis <br />Kucinich, State Senator Robert Spada, and State Representative Sally Conway Kilbane. <br />
