<br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2000 - 43 <br />BY: MAYOR NORMAN T. MUSIAL AND ALL MEMBERS OF COUNCII, <br />A RESOLUTION PROCLAIlVIlNG APRIL 28, 2000 ARBOR DAY IN THE CITY <br />OF NORTH OLMSTED AND CELEBRATING THE AWARD OF TREE CITY USA <br />WHEREAS, in 1872, J. Sterling Morton proposed to the Nebraska Board of Agriculture that a special <br />day be set aside for the planting of trees; and <br />WHEREAS, this holiday, called ARBOR DAY, was first observed with the planting of more than a <br />million trees in Nebreska, and Arbor Day is now observed throughout the nation and the world; and <br />WHEREAS, trees reduce the erosion of our precious topsoil by wind and water, cut heating and cooling <br />costs, moderate the temperature, clean the air, produce oxygen and provide habitat for wildlife; and <br />WHEREAS, trees are a renewable resource giving us paper, wood for our homes, fuel for our fires and <br />countless other wood products; and <br />WHEREAS, trees in our city increase property values, enhance the economic vitality of business areas, <br />and beautify our community; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of North Olmsted has been recognized as a Tree City USA by the National Arbor <br />Day Foundation fourteen years in a row; and <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND COUNCII, OF THE CITY OF <br />NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION NO. 1: That APRII., 28, 2000 is hereby proclaimed as ARBOR DAY in the City of <br />North Olmsted. All citizens are urged to support efforts to protect our trees and woodlands and celebrate <br />the receipt of Tree City USA by the City of North Olmsted. Further, we urge all citizens to plant trees to <br />gladden the heart and promote the well-being of this and future generations. <br />SECTION NO. 2: That the Clerk of Council be, and she is hereby directed to transmit a copy of <br />this Resolution to Dave Wendell, the FORESTER of the City of North Olmsted <br />PASSED: 44_'e'f o?
