OW _i
CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED
ORDINANCE NO. 99-156
BY: COUNCILMAN MICHAEL R. GAREAU, JR.
AN ORDINANCE REPEALING CHAPTER 731, ENTITLED
"MOTION PICTURES AND FILMS" OF THE CODIFIED
ORDINANCES, IN ORDER TO AVOID REDUNDANT AND
OUTDATED LAWS.
WHEREAS, this Council, on May 6, 1970, adopted Ordinance No. 70-74, which
provided for the creation of Chapter 731 of the North Olmsted Codified Ordinances, entitled
"Motion Pictures and Films;" and
WHEREAS, since 1970, the motion picture industry has substantially advanced in safety
and technology; and
WhTEREAS, the concerns which prompted the adoption of Chapter 731 in 1970, being
fire safety and protection of motion picture audiences from overcrowding and fire, have since
been adopted into the Ohio Basic Building Code and Ohio Fire Safety Code; and
WHEREAS, the requirement that motion picture projectionists be licensed by the City is
also no longer necessary, as modern projection equipment is safe to operate and does not require
extensive training; and
WHEREAS, this Council desires to avoid burdensome and outdated laws in the Codified
Ordinances, and Chapter 731, no longer being supported by any reasonable governmental
concern, is such an outdated law.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NORTH
OLMSTED, CUYAHOGA COUNTY, AND STATE OF OHIO:
SECTION 1: That Chapter 731 of the Codified Ordinances, entitled "Motion Pictures
and Films," be repealed.
