?:, <br />,? <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />ORDINANCE NO. 2003 - 11 <br />BY: Councilperson Ca.rolyn Kasler <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 1701.18 AND ENACTING NEW <br />SECTION 1701.27 OF THE FIRE PREVENTION CODE IN ORDER TO <br />DEFIlVE FIRE ALA.RIIZS SYSTEMS AND TO ASSESS MONETARY CHARGES <br />FOR FALSE FIRE ALARMS AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY, AS <br />THRICE AMENDED. <br />WHEREAS, North Olmsted Codified Section 1701.18 presently describes certain <br />requirements for the installation of fire alarm systems, which may be expanded to define such alarms <br />systems which generally result in automated or monitored notification to the Fire Department; and <br />WHEREAS, Council hereby finds that the frequency of false fire alarms arising from <br />automated alarm systems and the administrative costs of response by the City's fire safety forces have <br />continued to increase and, this Council further believes that, the administrative costs of these services <br />should rightfully be borne by or offset, in part, by the users of these systems and should increase <br />proportionally with the frequency of false alarms; and <br />N'HEREAS, it is the desire of this Council, based on the recommendations of the Fire Chief, <br />in addition to amending the definitions of Section 1701.18, to also enact a Fa1se Alarnls provision for <br />Chapter 1701, creating new section 1701.27, to establish a false alarm charge and procedure for <br />enforcement thereaf; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION 1: That Section 1701.18 of the Traffic Code of the City of North Olmsted, <br />which presently reads as follows: <br />"(a) Sin e-Familxand Two FamilYResidences. <br />(1) The installation of a minimum of one smoke detector per dwelling unit is <br />hereby required for a11 new single and two family residential dwellings <br />constructed subsequent to the effective date of this section (Ordinance 80-9, <br />passed March 4, 1980). As an alterna.tive to a smoke detector, an approved <br />fire detection system may be installed. Each such fire detection system must <br />be individually approved and a permit issued therefor by the Building <br />Department. <br />(2) Although not required, it is recommended that a11 existing single and two- <br />a?. ; <br />. ? .?.y . _... ...E ?,.?
