- s <br />CiTY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLiTTION NO. 95-158 <br />BY: Mavor Ed Bovle <br />A RESOLUTION OPPOSING THE USE OF A PRODUCT DLSTRIBUTION <br />PROCESS CALLED CROSS-DOCKING, AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY AS <br />AMENDED. <br />WHEREAS, today, suppliers deliver product from their manufacturing plant to their <br />distribution centers; and <br />WHEREAS, at the distribution centers, route sales drivers who work for the supplier, <br />deliver that product to the supermarkets; and <br />WHEREAS, with cross-docking, the large supermarket can tell its product suppliers <br />to deliver product from the suppliers' ma.nufacturiug plant directly to the supermarkets; and <br />WHEREAS, if cross-docking becomes reality in this area, hundreds of families in <br />Northeast Ohio are at risk of having a family member lose his or her job; and <br />WHEREAS, Finast Supermarkets in our area are now using this cross-docking <br />method; and <br />WHEREAS, the Dutch retail food conglomerate Royal Ahold, the parent company of <br />U. S. grocery stores Tops, Finast, Edwards, Bi-Lo and Mayfair, is aggressively pressuring <br />food producers to enter the cross-docking system or risk losing grocery stare shelf space; and <br />WHEREAS, retails such as Ahold withdrew their plans for hypermarkets in Holland <br />after senior citizens and local officials protested. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCII. OF THE CTTY <br />OF NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OffiO: <br />SECTION 1: That it is the desire ofthis City Cou.ncil and Administration to oppose <br />the use of cross-docking which may sacrifice good paying jobs. <br />,.
