JOB CLASSIFICATION <br />till, iww RESPONSIBLE TO <br />NATURE OF WORK: <br />OPERATOR <br />OPERATIONS FOREMAN <br />This is routine, skilled and semi-skilled work, assisting in shift operation of <br />wastewater treatment and pumping equipment and facilities at the municipal <br />wastewater treatment plant and pumping stations. <br />Work involves responsibility for routine and emergency operations; servicing <br />and cleaning of buildings and grounds as wel( as a variety or specialized equipment <br />and apparatus in a pumping station and wastewater treatment plant. Duties include <br />the operation of pumps, motors, and the reading and recording of appropriate meters <br />and gauges at regularly scheduled intervals in and around pump and treatment <br />plants. Incumbents are required to become thoroughfy trained on assigned <br />equipment under normal and emergency conditions. Work is performed under the <br />general supervision of the Assistant Superintendent - Plant Operations and is <br />reviewed through inspection of plant records, equipment and facilities, and <br />observation and tests of plant efficiencies and effectiveness. <br />EXAMPLES OF WORK: <br />Reads log book of previous shift operations to determine the occurrence of <br />conditions requiring special attention during his shifts. <br />Tours and inspects assigned pump station and treatment plant as required: <br />checks out equipment and collects appropriate wastewater samples during <br />various phases of the treatment process; checks flow charts to determine that <br />flow is to desired volume; checks ink supply and flow pens and replenishes and <br />adjusts as necessary. <br />Turns electrically operated pumps on and off in accordance with a prescribed <br />schedule or specific instructions; reads meters; changes log and recorder sheets <br />and makes periodic entries thereon. <br />Performs such general custodial work as mopping floors, washing windows, <br />painting equipment, keeping machinery free of dust and oil, and shoveling snow. <br />Maintains vigilance over operating equipment and recording devices at pumping <br />stations; starts up emergency pumps and annually resets control devices to <br />maintain pumping and treatment operations during power failure and emergency <br />conditions. <br />65 <br />
