CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED ; <br />RESOLiTTION NO. 95-144 (L -elk _ <br />ll1?(t (lBY: MAYOR ED BOYLE AND THE ENTIRE COUNCIL <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING NMP-START AMERICA AND <br />DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. <br />WHEREAS, One in seven Americans has a job related to the automobile industry; and <br />WHEREAS, The Consumer Confidence Index is at its lowest point since 1974 and our <br />overall economy continues to decline; and <br />)WHEREAS, A doctor in Warren, Ohio, has developed a program designed to <br />encourage employers to offer incentives to employees who buy American-made vehicles; and <br />WHEREAS, That idea was converted into a program called Jump-Start America; and <br />WHEREAS, Since this program began, more than 350 companies representing 25 <br />states have joined Jump-Start America; and <br />WHEREAS, The City of North Olmsted wishes to join in this program and will offer <br />one day off to any employee purchasing a vehicle with 51 percent of its parts made in the <br />United States; and <br />WHEREAS, This offer will expire on December 31, 1996; and <br />WHEREAS, The Jump-Start America plan is not a form of protectionism, nor is it a <br />subtle way to `Bash" Japan but it is a way to help the U. S. economy "get going." <br />NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTION 1: That it is the desire of this Council to allow one day of work off to a <br />full-time employee purchasing a new vehicle consisting of at least 51 percent of parts made in <br />the U.
