CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION NO. 95-142 <br />By: Mayor Edward Boyle <br />A RESOLUTION URGING THE OHIO LEGISLATURE TO <br />REJECT HOUSE BILL 68, WHICH BILL IS DUE FOR <br />CONSIDERATION AND WILL, IF APPROVED, GREATLY <br />RELAX THE PRESENT PROHIBITION AGAINST CITIZENS <br />CARRYING CONCEALED WEAPONS ON THEIR PERSONS. <br />WHEREAS, this Council has determined that members of the general citizenry carrying <br />concealed weapons on their person poses a significant threat to the sa.fety of the police forces of <br />the State of Ohio, County of Cuyahoga and City of North Olmsted as well as to the general <br />public; and <br />WHEREAS, the present pending House Bill 68 will relax the prohibition against carrying <br />concealed weapons in Ohio and will greatly increase the number of handguns on the streets, in our <br />places of recreation, in our workplaces and in our schools; and <br />WHERF.AS, should this Bill proceed above and beyond our legislative protest, this Council <br />would prefer a Bill that mandates proper fireazms training, the type of which is presently available <br />through the National Rifle Association in every area of Ohio. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NORTH <br />OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO: <br />SECTIONI: The City of North Olmsted urges rejection of HB 68 that would provide for <br />the carrying of concealed weapons by the general citizenry of the State of Ohio. <br />SECTION 2: Duplicate copies of this resolution shall be forwarded to the Governor, <br />members of the Ohio Legislature from Cuyahoga County and the Cuyahoga County <br />Commissioners by the Clerk of Council. <br />SECTION 3: That the Council finds and determines that a11 formal actions of this Council <br />relating to the adoption of this resolution have been taken at open meeting of this Council and that <br />deliberations of this Council and of its committees, resulting in such formal action, took place in <br />meetings open to the public and in compliance with all statutory requirements including the <br />requirements of Section 121.22 of the Ohio Revised Code. <br />
