CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED RESOLUTION NO. 95-128 BY: THE MAYOR AND ENTIRE CITY COUNCIL A RESOLUTION RECOGN/Z/NG THE CELEBRATION OF THE FIFTIETH ANN/VERSARY OF THE UNITED NATIONS, AND DECLAR/NG AN EMERGENCY. WHEREAS, The United Nations was founded fifty years ago at the end of Wor/d War ll in an effort to vanquish aggression and to prevent further wor/d wars; and WHEREAS, This October has been set aside to celebrate the founding of the United Nations; and WHEREAS, For the past 50 years, the United Nations has promoted peace and justice in the world through UNICEF, an organization which feeds and clothes children in deve%ping nations; the Wor/d Health Organization which batt/es A/DS and smalipox; in sending troops to keep peace in troub/ed areas of the wor/d; and through a variety of other ways; and WHEREAS, The United Nations a/so he/ps in the fight against g/obal narcotics traffic, against illiteracy and works toward the goa/ of a c/eaner environment; and WHEREAS, This 50th Anniversary ce/ebration gives all Americans an opportunity to sa/ute these efforts and to rededicate ourse/ves to the princip/es of respect for all peop/e. NOW, THEREFORE, BE lT RESOLVED BY THE COUNC/L OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO: SECTION 1: That it is the intent of this Administration and City Cauncil to encourage ce/ebrations in honor of this internationa/ organization. SECT/ON 2: That we be encouraged to use this time to renew and rededicate ourselves in our own lives to realizing the princip/es of consensus and reconciliation upon which the United Nations was founded. SECTION 3: That the C/erk of Council is hereby directed to iorward a copy of this Resolution to Kay Scrimger at the United States Conference of Mayors, 9620 Eye Street, Northwest, Washingfon, D. C. 20006.
