' . . . ? <br />J_ %. <br />t? <br />ir . <br />C/TY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUT/ON NO. 95-35 <br />BY: THE MAYOR AND ENTIRE CITY: QUNCIL <br />A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING APR1L AS FAIR HOUSING MONTH, AND <br />DECLAR/NG AN EMERGENCY. <br />WHEREAS, On January, 1986, the Board of Commissioners of <br />Cuyahoga County unanimous/y approved a resolution which urged every /ocal <br />government to work cooperatively to affirm the civil rights of every homeseeker in <br />Cuyahoga County by supporting fair housing efforts; and <br />WHEREAS, the Greater C/eve/and communities have united to presenf a <br />collaborative effort to support April as Fair Housing Month; and <br />WHEREAS, recent studies have documented the continued existence of <br />segregated communities and discrimination in this county's housing market and <br />school districts; and <br />WHEREAS, there are also communities in this county that integrate <br />successfully and need our support to assure their continued existence as racially <br />diverse communities; and <br />WHEREAS, on March 12, 9989, the 1988 Fair Housing Amendments Act <br />became efifecirve and added two new profected classes, the familial status and <br />the handicapped. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF <br />OHIO: <br />SECTION 1: That it is the desire of this Council and Administration to <br />support open and equal housing for all citizens. <br />SECTION 2: That it is also the goai of this government to eliminate <br />housing discrimination and to assure the rights of every citizen to buy, rent or sell <br />housing without regard of race, sex, religion, national origin or handicap. <br />SECTION 3: That the C/erk of Council be hereby instructed to send a <br />copy of this Resolution to Paul Herdeg, Housing Manager, Division of Community <br />Deve/opment and to Cheryl Stephens, Director of the Department of <br />Deve/opment.
