CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED
*14W RESOLUTION NO. 95-08
BY.• The Mayor and Entire Council
aN
A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE PUBLIC SERVICE OF
PATRICIA D. BAHAS, COUNCILWOMAN AT LARGE IN THE CITY
OF NORTH OLMSTED.
WHEREAS, Patricia D. Bahas has distinguished herself in public service to her community; and
WHEREAS, It is the desire of this Council to recognize and commend that public service by setting forth herein her
outstanding achievements, personal abilities and strengths together wilh her public contriburions:
-Patricia D. &rjurs, through her years nf wnrk as a public servant, has made a difference in the lives of all North Olmsted s
citizens. Beginning with her tenure on the Nonh Olmsted School Board, where she was instrumental in the passage of a»ucch-
needed school levy following the failure of the previous ten levies, Pat has always had the best interests of the citizens of North
Obnsted in mind After her successful term on the school board, Pax decided to leave that position and become a substitute teacher
in the same system she had previously administered. It would not be long before public life would again call. In 1980 Pat was
appointed to the North Olmsted Chaner Review commission and 198.5 she was made its chairperson. Ever mindful of the safety
and well-being of the Citizens of North Olmsted, Pat would nezt serve as chair of the Civil Service Commission- selecting vnly the
best to protect and serve us ald. Lastly, since 1988, Pat has served as Councilwoman-at-large for the Ciry of North Olmsted,
overseeing a period of prosperity and tremendous growth for our City.
-This Cowicil does not deem it appropriate to simply honor Patricia D. Bnhas by viewing her historical record as a public
servant because we recognize that a view of the "o„?`'icial record " only gives a partial picture of the woman we honor. A view of
the "non public" Patricia Bahas gives us all a greas deal of insight into the compassionate, considerale and kind-heaned woman
she is. -Patricia Bahas was born to Neva and Frostie Dilley on February 21, 1934.
-Upon graduarion from Walnut Hills High School in Dayton, Ohio, Pat obtained her degree in Education from the University
of Cincinnati. While studying there, Pat was blessed to cross paths with Gus Bahas, a man she would later call her husband.
-Following Gus' graaluation from John Marshall, the couple moved to Euclid, Ohio and, in what is the greatest
demonstration of love, Pat became a mother. She and Gus were blessed with four boys: Mark, Ted, Michael and Tommy.
-Upon moving to North Olmsted, Pax volunteered her rime as the Horizon School, oftert taking an active role in fundraising
efforts. Her continuing effons to help the children of our City, whether as a school board member, a teacher, or a volunteer at
Horizon's serve as an example to us all.
-Pat has had to deal with more adversity rhan any person should be made to endure, having lost her beloved Gus a1 a
tragicadly early age and having lost her son, Tom, in accident while he wos serving his country in the Marine Corps. Ever mindful
of the well being of the Citizens of North Olmsted and, especially, the children, Pat has overcome her personal loss and continued
to serve her fellow citizens as only few before her have done.
-Known fnr her ability to create cnnsensus where consensus wns see»ringly impossible, Pat has used her talents on numerous
occasiorrs while serving as a member of the Public Safety, Health and We#bre Committee; the Public Parks and Building Committee;
the Environmental Conrrol Committee, the Cable TV Advisory Comminee, the Recreation Commission, and the Intra-Governmental
Relalions and Legislation Comminee, to name a few. Her mastery a1 keeping a level head when words began to fly, perhaps borne
of years of dedication to children, has enabled our City to prosper in the years she has served its Citizens.
-Pat has opened her home to Foreign Exchange Students, providing shelter and food to students from France, Brazil, and
England.
-Lastly, in perhaps whal best exemplifies Pat's concern and compassion for those around her,Pat has taken in children in
need of a home. Through the C'ity's Human Resources Depamnent, Pat has graciousty opened her doors to children from troubled
families, not only providing them with a warin place to live, but helping them through times when they were most in need of help.
She has become the legal guardian of one of those children and she, as well as two other children, will be moving to Nonh Carolina
with Pat and Flash. Her dedication to the cause of the citi.zens of North Olmsted, especially the children, serves as an example to
us all.
-lhis Council does wish Councilwbman Patricia D. Bnhas the best of luck wherever her travels take her. May she continue
to enjoy the things she loves best, especialty spending time with her fnmily; may she continue to work on behaf of those around
her, whether it be through volunteer service, service in a public capacity, or simpty being a mother and grundmother; lastly may
she enter life in her new communiry with the knowledge that those le,ft behind in the community of North Olmsted are truly
appreciative of her hard work and dedication.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED, COUNTY OF
CUYAHOGA AND STATE OF OHIO:
SECTION 1: That the Council of the City of Nonh Olmsted personalty and collectively and on behalf of the Mayor and
Administration and all residents of the Chy, honors the pubdic service of Patricia D. Bahas, and extends its debt of gratitude to her.
