carry over permitted to equal that which the employee in entitled, to based upon years of <br />service. The employee shall notify the Chief of Police a minimum of twelve months <br />prior to the planned retirement date. <br />That portion carried over will be the amount when added to vacation earned in year of <br />retirement equals vacation total for two (2) years. If employee extends pre-established <br />retirement date that portion of vacation carried over which exceeds amount entitled to <br />will be forfeited, unless there is just a reasonable cause established by the individual <br />planning retirement and agreed to by the Chief of Police. <br />9.4 All vacation time shall be paid at the regulaz wage rate, except when employee <br />requests vacation credit accumulation. For the purpose of calculating vacation pay, <br />when vacation accumulation is requested by an employee, the wage rate at the time the <br />vacation was requested to be accumulated shall be used to calculate vacation pay. If, due <br />to scheduling, vacations cannot be taken subsequent to the year such vacation earned and <br />are accumulated and taken in the next subsequent year, the rate of vacation pay shall be <br />at the rate of pay during the year such vacation is taken, provided the same is approved <br />by the Chief of Police. <br />9.5 Vacations must be scheduled with and authorized by the Chief of Police or his <br />designee. Schedules are to be coordinated so as not to disrupt necessary City services or <br />functions of the department. <br />9.6 If an employee is terminated (voluntarily or involuntarily) prior to taking his <br />vacation and has completed one (1) year of employment with the City, he shall receive <br />the prorated portion of any accrued but unused vacation at the time of separation. In <br />case of death of an employee, the unused vacation leave shall be paid to the estate. <br />11 <br />
