CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />RESOLUTION NO. 68- )94 <br />BY ? . L',?QntJ <br />A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING GUN CONTROL LEGISLATION <br />IN THE STATE OF OHIO PROVIDING FOR STRINGENT PENALTIES <br />FOR THE ILLEGAL USE OF FIREARMS, BUT OPPOSING MANDA- <br />TORY REGISTRATION OF FIREARMS, AND DECLARING AN <br />EMERGEN CY. <br />WHEREAS, the Safbty , Health and Welfare Committee of North Olmsted <br />Council has given considerable study to firearms regulations in the State of <br />Ohio ; and <br />WHEREAS, it is the opinion of the Safety, Health and Welfare Committee <br />that a resolution should be passed by this Council indicating the City's position <br />with respect to firearm control legislation ;and <br />WHEREAS, Council having given consideraition to the recommendation <br />of the Safety, Health and Welfare Committee is of the opinion that it would be <br />to the best interest of the citizens of the City of North Olmsted that gun con- <br />trol legislation be considered. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br />North Olmsted, State of Ohio : <br />Section 1. That this Council be placed on record as favoring the im- <br />mediate passage of gun control legislation, which in fact provides for stringent <br />mandatory penalties for the illegal use of firearms, but opposing the mandatory <br />registration of firearms. <br />Section 2. That the Clerk of Council is hereby directed to forward <br />certified copies of this resolution to the Governor of the State of Ohio, James <br />A. Rhodes, Attorney General of the State of Ohio, William B. Saxbe, State <br />Senator, John Weeks, and State Representative, George E. Mastics. <br />Section 3. That this Resolution is hereby determined to be an emergency <br />measure necessary for the preservation of the public peace, safety, health and <br />welfare of the City of North Olmsted , and such emergency exists by virtue of the <br />fact that immediate legislation is needed with respect to stringent mandatory <br />penalties for the illegal use of firearms for the protection of the citizens of the <br />City of North Olmsted. WHEREFORE, this Resolution shall take effect immediately <br />upon its passage, otherwise, at the earliest period allowed by law. <br />PASSED: ?
